I honestly didn't know I needed it as badly as I did. I think that's the hard thing, you don't know you're burnt out until you step away from it all for a bit, which is hard (and sometimes not possible) to do.

GCX - Gaming Community Expo at Universal Studios Orlando - July 24-25, 2026.
So I’m gonna help them out, build the industry component, tell folks about their event. And for the first time in a while, I’m genuinely excited about it - I feel this is going to be FUN.
(8/9)
It’s a true, genuine, honest to god community gaming event.
And it’s in a theme park.
And the after party is in the theme park. At night. Exclusively.

A grassroots event that started out years ago as a meetup for Destiny fans. The folks behind it aren’t faceless - they’re known creators. The event is full of other creators that attend - cause they WANT to be there. The expo floor features game mod groups, community guilds, and LARP groups.

I figured I was done with events.
Then I went to a theme park.
Specifically, a gaming event INSIDE a theme park.

I went back to Australia multiple times last year, literally staying in remote areas for much of it. I turned down roles to work on other events and brands you would know, not believing the corporate promises (correct decision in retrospect).
(4/9)
My last role in events however, as Event Director for the DreamHack Festivals in the US, was particularly challenging. I’m not going to go into the details - there’s so many wonderful people that still work there, and the events are still meaningful to a lot of communities - but it was rough.

This career path has taken me all over the world, and given me such wonderful opportunities and experiences, not to mention the tangible way I’ve been able to help folks from the games industry directly at all the various shows.
(2/9)
For almost a year, I’ve been completely burnt out.
You all probably know me as an ‘event’ guy, having worked for over a decade on shows like PAX, Comic-Con, EGX, E3 (RIP), and most recently DreamHack.
