There are few things in this world I love more than public transit, and so I loved this piece. I also love ORB (not just because it let me write 7,000 words on ways in which us coastal types are implicated in the coal economy even as we fight a guerilla war against it) and YOU SHOULD JOIN.
there's so much to see out there!
thank you to @zunguzungu.bsky.social for Seeing the Vision (and helping streamline the execution)
a couple weeks ago my friend and I journeyed all the way around the bay on public transit only. i wrote about the things we saw, for @oaklandreviewofbooks.org:
A panel from Dykes To Watch Out For Sydney: Revelatory. I don't get this mortification of the flesh thing. No meat, no sugar, no whipped cream. Do you have a hair shirt under the stripes? Mo: Hey, don't talk to me about mortifying the flesh. You know what all that dairy is doing to your arteries?
Let's cook the joke vegetarian food from Alison Bechdel's Dykes To Watch Out For

My dispatch from Kyiv's queer nightlife scene for @xtramagazine.com
Despite curfews, blackouts and anti-LGBTQ+ attacks, queer clubs and raves are bringing people together in Ukraine's capital city.
An absolute pleasure working with @cohaug.bsky.social & @tmziniuk.bsky.social
really enjoyed working with @finbarrtoesland.bsky.social on this piece about queer clubs and raves in Kyiv:

I wouldn't be who I am today without the time I spent writing for Bitch. I miss it so much, and I'm so glad writers and editors are carrying on its legacy in new forms. "now more than ever" is a cliche but we really do need feminist media right now, desperately.
it was an honor at the time to see how much it resonated with people — and it's continued to be an honor over the years to have writers I work with bring it up, or students tell me they read it in class. it truly means so much <3
I originally wrote this piece for Bitch back in 2021. So grateful to @freeblackgirl.bsky.social and @theflytrapmedia.com to see it back in print again <3

This week's reprint from the Bitch archives is an updated read from @cohaug.bsky.social on care economies, romantic love, and building more sustainable ways of taking care of each other.
helped pull together a little roundup of @xtramagazine.com contributors and editors' fave songs from (mostly) queer/trans artists! my takeaway: violins are IN. and thank god for that.

This is the best vibe report!! Ahhhh very sorry to be on the other side of the world right now, but cherishing the report even more because of that.
Call for sources from one of our @xtramagazine.com fellows:
"Are you a teacher, ed worker, or librarian in Alberta? I’m writing about how education workers are working with/around the recent anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and book bans. Reach out to alicep.boyle@gmail.com if you're open to speaking."
thank u! :)
