Before Super Mario Galaxy, there was...Super Mario Galaxy! We dug out some high resolution assets that were sent to the media ahead of the original game's release, from a 20-year-old CD.

The Artemis II launch was awesome!

I have no feelings about Fox because I was never a Starfox fan; if anything, he just falls in with my issue of "all these references crammed into a tiny runtime just so you can point and go HAHA I KNOW THAT and hopefully not notice the movie's mediocrity beyond that"

I don't wanna come off like those whiny critics who cry about everything and scream "NINTENDO BAD" while wiping their tears on Gabe Newell's shirt or whatever, because I'm absolutely the Mario fan they'd hate. But I dunno, this just wasn't it for me, I guess...

I got my hopes up for something I knew would let me down, and I was still let down. The movie's enjoyable for the novelty of the references and the stunning visuals, but beyond that, it's got nothing going for it. Being a Super Mario Galaxy fan is WHY I'm so critical of it, I guess.

-hoping for more "true to the game" representation that wouldn't come. It wasn't really Super Mario Galaxy to me, just "Super Mario games with Galaxy as the basis". I know Super Mario Galaxy works better as a game, but at that point, why not go with the original "Super Mario World" idea?

-in the end, and all the references targeted towards people my age and older weren't lost on me. They were cool to point at and go, "Hey! I know that thing!", but the novelty wore off real fast and made me wish I were playing Super Mario Galaxy instead of-

-important backstory just to shove some other nonsensical garbage in its place. Rosalina herself just didn't have anything to her beyond "cool moments for the first few minutes", and I don't enjoy the way they sent her character. I guess it's on me, though, because it's a kids movie-

I don't want to spoil it for anybody that didn't watch the movie, but I didn't really like how "Galaxy" took a backseat to all the 5,000 other hamfisted references and frenetic plot. It suffered the same pitfalls as the first movie, and whereas I wouldn't usually care, I was stoked for more-
