New Past Lives: The Shaman of Bad Durrenberg. Nine thousand years ago, a woman was buried in central Germany along with her deer-antler and goose-feather headdress, dozens of animal teeth, and a variety of other items. Who was she, and why did she matter to her people? www.pod.link/1852618120/e...
Guess, how many journalists did Israel murder in Lebanon today? And how many ambulances trying to save those journalists did Israel attack today?
This brave woman was murdered, represents less than 0.5% of the journalists Israel has murdered, and just one of half a dozen murdered this month.
really good analysis on the site today from @madisyn-writes.bsky.social. i love this game and loved their take on it, which makes a lot of points i had never considered before

Down to the last $1000 to raise! Help me close it out today and get this money over to the families—they are mindblown that this came together so fast.
Maybe this is a new kind of mutual aid…mutually beneficial projects. We get to help two families for the price of one!

Being a freelance illustrator means saying “ah no I’m not a graphic designer, sorry” basically every time you see an acquaintance or a non-immediate family member

Hello. Most of you here know me, and I'm still working tirelessly to save my family from genocide in Gaza. Your donation of even 10 euros would be a lifeline for us; it strengthens our resilience and provides treatment for my mother. Please don't let us down; Send us something 🙏⬇️🫂🇵🇸

In slowly overgrowing concrete lot, next to junkyard shanty, beneath the boughs of a massive tree, some little guys are playing footie. With gusto, the most prominently featured reptilian child kicks the ball towards the camera, causing shockwaves of dust. Other children react with joy, anger, confusion.
In dusty scrublands, hundreds of sheep are guided by several reptilian shepherds. In the distance hulking, rusty spaceship parts are crashed into the landscape.
Three little reptilian guys careen through the air with urban detritus. A car, a bin, a power line to which one clings desperately. Behind them in the clouds a colossal serpent whips through the sky, it's fleshy triangular mouth opens, eyelessly, towards them.
In a snowy valley a warmly dressed figure offers a helping hand to another, reptilian, bleeding figure on the ground. Behind them in the snow is a trail through the snow, tracing the path of the downed figure tumbling down a hill, strewing their belongings across the slope before coming to a rest. A the top of the hill there are more figures, a sled and pack beasts looking down and readying ropes. In the path of the rope is the snowprints showing the helping hand's path down into the valley.
Today I turned 36 so here's my weird little guy at varying stages of their life.
Across five prose fiction categories, there are 30 different authors shortlisted.
That means no author was shortlisted more than once for a novel, short story, novelette, novella, or series.
Awesome to note there are 10 authors who appear on the ballot in those five categories for the first time.

It's been so interesting to watch this unfold. Barnes & Noble and other big book chains shut indies down in the the 1990s (and on) and then Amazon came along and ate up all the book market share. Now people tired of big corporations are creating demand for more indies

Description from The Met’s site - “Inspired by the modernity of London’s subway system, popularly known as the Tube, Power featured it in many of his signature linocuts. The disengaged passengers on this crowded subway—a scene familiar to many urban dwellers—prefer to read their newspapers rather than interact with one another. Alienation, a by-product of modern life, is a theme often present in Power’s images of the London Underground”.
The Tube Train, by Cyril E. Power, linocut, 1934.
Today is Odai’s birthday, but there’s no celebration. No laughter.
Just pain. For 2 years, he’s been suffering, and even today nothing changed
While others blow candles, he’s just trying to get through the day
Please, send him love, share his story, don’t let him feel alone

“That’s all anybody can do right now. Live. Hold out. Survive. I don’t know whether good times are coming back again. But I know that won’t matter if we don’t survive these times.”
