These last twenty-four hours have been powerful; my first of these Holy Week services as a priest. I have stood where Jesus did. I shared a meal with friends as Jesus did. I washed feet as Jesus did. I watched and waited as Jesus did, as others left one by one. I carried the cross as Jesus did.

a girl with REALLY COOL NAILS is holding a book while she is blurred in the background. The book says "ESTHER KEEPS THE SCORE: trauma, body, and politics in the Hebrew bible" in cream font, with "Alexiana Fry" below this in a light blue. The book has a large red chrysanthemum, brown crown, gold mirror, grapes, and a yellow myrtle plant with spiky flowers on it.

So, that’s it. Four years of hard work. Hundreds of books, articles, and chapters read and cited. 72,979 words spread over 250 pages of writing.* That’s right… I have finally submitted my PhD thesis!

Sadly, we were interrupted by a heckler! But I decided to keep it in the video, because it exemplifies exactly the sort of problems I am trying to address in my work, ministry, and research. May we continue to thirst for justice…

Though it was sadly due to covering sickness, it’s been a real treat to teach half of this module - a great experience for me as much as for the students, I hope! Some fascinating discussions and learning about what it might mean to be a more trauma-informed church.

A final bit of teaching for the Trauma and Theology module today at @westcotthousecam.bsky.social with ordinands and students from across the CTF, looking at the richness of Holy Saturday for trauma survivors and how liturgy (especially the Eucharist) can be useful in post-traumatic remaking.
