Comparing to a different sphere: For doing a sponsored game stream on Twitch, a fair rate is generally considered about $1/viewer/hour (which doesn't count time coordinating sponsorships or setting up games and such).

Exactly! Ya gotta use an 18-point rating system that looks like a 1-10 scale at first, but it also utilizes 0.5s — except nothing is ever rated 0.5 or 1.5. And the rating which means "broadly recommended" is 7.5+.
(...I may actually be describing what I've personally used for over a decade... 🙃)
I often find formulas good for sanity checks: I usually want further testing/situational consideration beyond them, but they can be great for making sure your instincts are in the right ballpark or giving you a baseline to build from.

Yeah even as someone that used to think in terms of gameplay-above-all 15 years ago or whatever, I still don't really remember ever being condescended to by folks more interested in story. (You'd get the folks dismissive of weaker graphics or such I guess, but never scoffing at gameplay.)
Then we can only look forward to the videogame they make for this time in our lives, as it will surely *also* have surprisingly good gameplay and a bangin' soundtrack?

Seconding Keep Talking & Nobody Explodes as my all-time favorite in this category.
Others I've enjoyed solidly: BattleBlock Theater, Left 4 Dead 2, Magicka, Trine.
There are also excellent boardgames in this realm: Hanabi, So Clover, Spirit Island, or The Crew are some worth checking out there.

Even true of games that aren't light as well — FTL has a long history of players dismissing it as needing too much luck to win (including myself when it first came out!), when the reality is the best players can win 98%+ of the time on Hard.

Sounds true to its roots — the one time I played the 1985 version, I utilized my mech's Jump Jets to do what seemed like a basic reposition. I promptly landed off-target, broke a leg in the landing, and fell into a lake.

Roguelikes eventually taught me: post-death inventories full of Scrolls of Teleport & Potions of Healing start looking mighty foolish after a while.
Was then also kinda neat replaying Chrono Trigger: I ran from everything -> very underleveled -> I actually used Megaelixirs against non-final bosses!
I use an extension "YouTube Search Fixer" which hides some of the unrelated diversion garbage, improving the search quality from 2/10 all the way up to 3/10!
Can confirm — I've been streaming semi-professionally over a decade, play 100 games a year, and my _curated_ backlog is still about 130 games right now...

I'm moderately compelled towards idle/incremental games, so I've played nearly 100 of them — but ultimately I don't find them satisfying and often just kinda feel bad afterwards, so out of all of those the only one I actually recommend is Orb of Creation.
Tho I do remember the first time I grudgingly admitted than an mp3 sounded better than the midi version — it was Time's Scar from Chrono Cross.
The IRC friend that had sent me the mp3 was so baffled that this was somehow surprising to me 😅
