Huh, so international law is a thing.
And this administration apparently has thoughts about illegal attacks on boats in particular.

As @revadamtaylor.bsky.social writes, MLK "gave one of the best and most lasting critiques of the immoral tradeoffs of unnecessary and immoral war:"
"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
The people being killed in Trump's boat strikes pose no military threat and are not at war with the U.S.
📣“They are not combatants. They are civilians suspected of committing crimes, and to kill them without any due process is an unlawful extrajudicial killing.”

This is great, and a good reminder of the attack of this administration on mRNA technology and science. What is happening to science funding now is appalling.
ZOHRAN: “TBH, I don’t think too much about how Republicans portray me. The power of an ideology is judged in the worth of its delivery— to be told a city-run grocery store is implausible but $500 MILLION/day to kill ppl in Iran & Lebanon is necessary speaks to a broken politics.”
We should be learning from other countries...
Let this sink in:
The U.S. is already spending by far more 💰 on the military than any other nation.
Pres. Trump's requested $1.5 trillion military budget would be more than the next 34 countries COMBINED.

Photo graphic with black overlay on left half with that reads: Six months since the ceasefire...People in Gaza still waiting for safety. A ceasefire in name only cannot protect families, rebuild homes, or stop the killing. #ThisIsNotaCeasefire
It’s been six months since a ceasefire in Gaza was announced. But today, Israel—with full support from the U.S.—continues to bomb civilians in Gaza and obstruct humanitarian aid from entering.

Red graphic with white AFSC logo and text that reads: President Trump's threat to wipe out Iran's "whole civilization" is genocidal. Thousands of civilians have been killed in Iran and throughout the region. The U.S. is already carrying out war crimes — and now it is threatening to commit more. As Quakers, we have opposed war and stood with its victims for more than 100 years. We cannot be silent now. This must stop. Tell Congress: End this war now.

This is the most horrifying, psychotic, grotesque message Trump has ever posted—openly threatening to commit genocide. This is beyond reckless. It’s dangerous, dehumanizing, and utterly unfit for any leader.
genocide noun geno·cide ˈje-nə-ˌsīd Synonyms of genocide : the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group
Trump’s threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” fits the dictionary definition of genocide.
let's be clear about what's happening: donald trump and benjamin netanyahu, whose countries have been committing genocide in gaza since 2023, unilaterally started a war with iran, and are now threatening genocide there.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” -Trump

Every Dem needs to be on their way back to Washington immediately right now due to pants-shitting fear of what their constituents would do to them otherwise.
"History will judge them" ok but we wouldn't have to wait for history if our elected officials would just exercise the power they wield

#WarIsNotTheAnswer
Enough is enough.
President Trump wants to take even MORE money away from healthcare, education, climate, and housing programs to fund more disastrous war.
This budget proposal is a "moral obscenity" that must be stopped.
It is worth noting that advice like this overly focuses on individual effort compared to systemic changes and government policies like equal pay, higher minimum wages, affordable housing, union benefits, as well as funding for childcare, public education, and public transportation.
Means-testing also makes programs cost more than they would under a universal model, because so much money gets wasted on verification, surveillance, and compliance.
Trump's $200 billion Iran War request could instead fund:
- Medicaid for 17 million people who will lose it due to cuts
- Food stamps for 4 million people losing SNAP
- Medical care for 1.8 million veterans of "GWOT" who live with disabilities
- Head Start expansion to serve over 4.2 million kids
The United States is the wealthiest nation in the world.
We CAN do all of this and more - for just a fraction of the money our gov. is spending on war.
It's not about resources. It's about priorities.
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some 50 miles of concrete highway. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This, I repeat, is the best way of life to be found on the road. the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.
An important quote from Eisenhower’s April 16, 1953 speech. War is never the answer. ☮️

I continue to be gobsmacked at 1) how common this formulation is 2) how antisemitic and generally bigoted it is 3) and how for all the talk of anti-semitism this is never cited as an example even though it’s quite literally the original incarnation.
"Congress must act urgently to restrain the administration before this spirals into another endless war," @bridgetmoixfcnl.bsky.social said.
