Cracking the Newsworthiness Code: Why We Must Teach AI to Think Like an Editor-in-Chief As a tech journalist and editor, I have spent my entire career solving one problem: the nature of news.

The future of Media AI isn't text generation. It's high-level curation.

We need to engineer "Newsworthiness" directly into the code. Here is how we can digitize Editorial Intuition:

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the ideas you share. They really resonate with me: PR isn’t just for big brands, it’s a powerful free tool for small businesses too. Amazing how much our thinking aligns with what we’re building at @betatale.com ! Just wanted to send some support :)

Hi Daisy!
If the deadline’s still open, I can share this with the big AI community + @Betatale media experts (there are cryo specialists there).
Which outlet are you writing for, and when’s the deadline?

Let me know if it’s still relevant — or if you’ve got new topics.
Cheers!

Let me know if it’s still relevant, or if there are any new topics you’re working on.

Cheers! :)

Hi Sam! Deadline likely passed, but we had slug invasions on our ground-floor balcony. My wife hates slugs and used Slug & Snail Killer (blue granules) - magically, slugs won’t cross it :)) Super effective but toxic to pets. Can share more, just limited to 300 characters here :)

Hello, fellow immigrants! For something I'm writing, I'm seeking out tips from people who moved to London from other countries on how they decided where to live in this fine city. If anyone fits the bill and has thoughts to share, please get in touch. #journorequest

Great take on disclosure. The food labeling analogy really hits the mark.

"When I am using AI, I feel it’s good to let the recipients of my work know the extent and the reason why I used it. With disclosure comes choice. It is like food labelling. Customers have the right to know what they are consuming and they can then make informed choices that work best for them."

Thanks for the sharing!
That was a really deep point of @darrylsparey.bsky.social that with the rise of LLMs, editorial content has a much longer life.
In the past it had an impact in the media, then through Google search, and now there's a third layer: LLMs, which learn from editorial texts. 🔥

"One example of a thing that journalists do that language models cannot is come and have this conversation with me"

NYT's @benmullin.bsky.social interviewed Every media start-up founder Dan Shipper about his belief that deeper use of AI in writing won’t kill authors, but will make them stronger.

Great piece!

Every time I’ve skipped the hard conversations, it came back to bite later :)

Really appreciate how clearly you’ve laid this out.

A year ago, Wired’s @stevenlevy.bsky.social wrote an insightful column saying human connection would stay our unbeatable edge. But now @j-amesmarriott.bsky.social of The Times says people even prefer AI to humans, even knowing it’s not real. I shared some thoughts.

It seems AI will surpass humans in empathy, patience, and creativity. Maybe the only thing that saves us is becoming a “unique commodity”. Human work will be more valued as a rarity with limited capacity, even if it lacks “factory-level quality”
