Every admin assistant/secretary/staff person (who was the one who actually ran offices/businesses but we don't talk about that) who's had to do this over the years, all their work hidden from their bosses who never cared to know what they do, has feelings on this issue.
This is the most important thing you will read today – and probably the whole year, honestly.
We cannot let the AMOC collapse. For one thing it will make Iceland uninhabitable, and I would really like my children and grandchildren not to become refugees. But the effects will be almost everywhere.
I wrote this dark academia book from the professor's POV, and at least once a year, something that happens in the book happens to me irl--which, not fun, but at least I know I did a good job capturing the toxic system!!!
Hi! A responsible title to this article would have been something like, "Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas calls for violent right-wing revolution against most of the American populace".
Perfect book placement
Had a great time chatting with Kimberly at Make Me Smart about #solarpunk!

Wooo! Congrats!
Pittsburgh's City Council voted unanimously this week to formally codify its refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. This is bigger than a symbolic gesture, here's what it actually does and why it matters. 🧵
all these universities kept axing medieval history departments as if they thought tyrants beefing with the Pope was going to stop being relevant

There is no ceasefire in Lebanon. Israel has been bombing Lebanon non-stop since last night. If anything Israel is expanding its war on Lebanon.
You are being lied to
Things I've done this morning: call my congress reps, made a plan with friends if communication goes down, signed up for Meshcore and continued to help plan/host an upcoming Mesh workshop. Tonight, I'm seeing Bread and Puppet where I imagine I'll have a moment to feel the grief and fear with others.
Hey call me a crazy radical left wing anarchist extremist but I actually don't think anyone should have the power to threaten the world with nuclear war, even if they use calm, grammatical language to do it.
Israeli soldiers are detonating entire villages in South Lebanon while taking selfies. Ancient mosques, churches, cemeteries, schools, hospitals - all being obliterated by the genocidal regime

Same!!
Now that the "I don't want politics in my science fiction & fantasy" statement/opinion/complaint has come up (yet again)
I'm reminded that in 2013 I wrote an essay (in defense of world building) titled "The Status Quo Does Not Need Worldbuilding"

apparently Wikipedia has more rigorous standards than every university on the planet, university administrators, edtech enthusiasts, (certainly more than) AI bros, several prominent academic journals, and too many professors and teachers
A Texas school district has banned HOW LONG TIL BLACK FUTURE MONTH, along with over 1500 other books. Mine was kicked bc it's labeled for adults, which is true. But so are every one of my books, which are available in most schools.
That's the only one with "Black" in the title, tho.
This week in my worldbuilding class, we are watching Sinners. Next week, we are watching Andor. I'm glad I scheduled some treats for myself because this semester has been a real test.
RIGHT!? So, so satisfying as a reader. And I'm glad my students got to see the possibilities of narrative and POV!
Had a great time reading The Saint of Bright Doors by @vajra.me in my worldbuilding class. Multiple students thanked me for assigning the book and several said they already planned to reread it after coming to the twist! A real blast!
The fact that clipping. knows about WorldCon just made me so happy.
Thank you! At an event last night I said "If the word hope doesn't work for you try, 'Never fucking surrender.'" The word hope seems too sunny to a lot of people, but the heart of it as I'm interested in it is: we make the future in the present, if we show up, and that never surrender part.
really really excited that Ancillary Review will be starting its very first crowdfunding campaign in a few weeks! we're raising money to become a paying market for our hardworking writers - consider giving it a follow?

Charlie Jane makes a strong case *against* a new Firefly series.
"We don't need to rehash a failed show from 25 years ago — we can create something brand new that might actually succeed."
As they deliberately attack cultural heritage sites in Iran, the US/Israel is attacking universities in Lebanon. Across the region, Israel is exporting its genocide in Gaza 2 other countries because no 1 who could stopped them from decimating the culture, identity, livelihoods & existence of a ppl
The Literary World's Prestigious Taco Bell Quarterly has surpassed 24,000 followers in the sky. I can't even use the Paris Review over here as my villain because I'm crushing them. We are about to surpass Lit Hub. Taco Bell is your Literary Hub now.
We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.
