Ease the right into the transition from historical figures to animals with a short series of limited edition banknotes where Paddington is leading whoever's pictured away, then tell them the new animal notes show nature frolicking in a bucolic meadow or garden of remembrance.

We’ll start with an explainer covering:

Sir Roy Clarke turns 96 today and, having considered himself retired on several occasions, will have works premiering on television this year. I'm still in the midst of writing his biography – a colossal, but infinitely rewarding undertaking. Some thoughts follow...
I would also feel as though I'd come home if I walked in and most of the people greeting me used to see me in the previous place every day.
My favourite last words will always be those of Roald Dahl. For those unaware, he said, "You know, I'm not frightened, it's just that I will miss you all so much."
He fell unconscious and a nurse administered a morphine injection to ease his passing, causing him to stir and mutter, "ow, fuck!"
So sorry to read this, Moose, please accept our love to you and your family.
I was about 6 or 7, jumping off big piles of sand with my brother and cousin, went for the biggest jump ever attempted (probably about 5'), kept repeating to myself to land with knees bent from that massive height ... landed, legs crumpled, kneed myself in the face and broke my nose.
Truly the consumer hero we need in these trying times.
I haven't smoked in about 15 years but Rocco made me consider starting again.
Fantastic NYE, had an early night and roughly 10 hours sleep. That's the energy I want for 2026, might get something done for a change.
This very morning I happened to be in the kitchen when the man from Pets @ Home delivered some cat food. We'd ordered it and we do have cats, it wasn't a random drive-by cat-fooding.
The number 1 movie when you were ten years old will define your 2026.
So maybe not the most positive for the protagonist but in retrospect possibly the best one of all.*
* I will not enter into any discussion regarding this last point.
Decided to make it five signed books, not three, I'm giving away to people who share this.
Because my thieving ex-publishers can fuck off.
Because I believe this book is good enough to be read and enjoyed for many years.
Because it's the only pension I'll have.
And because why fucking not.
You had me at "Ghost" but the Guardian review's mention of "the grumpy ghost of a horse" is the icing on top.

The role of John McClane had to be offered to Frank Sinatra despite him being 73 at the time as Sinatra had starred in The Detective (1968); Die Hard is based on the next novel ("Nothing Lasts Forever") and Sinatra's contract gave him an option to star in any sequel. As for it being a Chri... (1/96)
I think I've just about finished fucking off for 20 years, any recommendation on what books to start reading for the next step?
A composite photograph of two bags of crisps on sale at my local shop with flavours promising to be reminiscent of a dog's fart after its eaten your Christmas dinner leftovers. On the left is a dark red coloured bag claiming to be "Beef Wellington & Port Gravy" flavour, on the right a matte gold bag of "Boxing Day Curry" flavour. I didn't buy them but I am intrigued about how much Brussels sprout features in the curry.
Jeff Goldblum "your scientists" meme.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Learning from Stoppard By Mike Fitzgerald, June 13, 2016 Comparing two drafts of a script can be hugely instructive, revealing point-by-point how a writer went about improving the story. When I stumbled upon an earlier draft of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, I discovered a dazzling, glittering trove of lessons as nourishing as eternal life itself. Well, nearly so. Last Crusade was written by Jeffrey Boam, from a story by George Lucas and Menno Meyjes. So say the opening credits. Boam’s final draft, dated March 1, 1988 (ten weeks before production) differs drastically from the published script which reflects the released version of the film. Differences come as no shock, but with Last Crusade they aren’t just a few deleted scenes and some line changes. Whole sections of the Boam draft were reimagined, major set pieces were added, and the pacing and tone were markedly transformed. Whoever made these changes possessed a profound grasp of story craft. Nine years ago Mike Fitzgerald wrote up an extraordinarily fascinating breakdown of the differences between the Tom Stoppard shooting script and the original Jeffrey Boam draft of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
