No offense to ENDGAME (which I like), but I don’t think movies should require homework.

Guys, I’d like to formally announce that IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!
A DVD copy of COCOON (1985), a movie that is now infamously hard to find streaming or on physical media
This photo is a prime example of why libraries are so important.
I don’t drink so the cocktails would have to non-alcoholic. Other than that, though, these movie-themed meals are my love language!

This is truly one of the most suspenseful videos I’ve seen in a LONG time.
This is really tragic news. I can’t say that I knew Will very well beyond being social media acquaintances and listening to podcasts, but he was a really nice, intelligent, personable guy with lots of interesting takes. It makes me sad that he’s gone.
And here's what I thought of it.
(This one made me sad!)

Here's what I watched today:

I LIKE TV
Whatever kind of hat it is, what I love about it in the ROCKY movies is that it really feels like a trusty, well-loved companion of a hat. It doesn’t feel like something Rocky wears to look tough or cool. He wears it because it’s HIS HAT, and that’s all there is to it.
Does that make sense?
THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD usually gets referenced today in connection with the 1982 remake, but this video is a great reminder that the original is a dynamic, cool-looking movie in its own right. I need to see it again!
Earth and Moon from DSCOVR NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month. This view shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the moon that is never visible from Earth. Ian Regan processed this version of the image to account for the Moon's motion. NASA / NOAA / Ian Regan
I hadn't seen this before. This is pretty remarkable.

What to do if You're Disturbed by a Spirit Step One: Did you ever stop to think that maybe you disturbed the spirit first? Step Two: Of course you didn't.

The first page is a large headshot of the Spirit with a bandage over one eye. In the background is the ocean and the silhouette of a woman on a make-shift raft made of logs and a small sail. The Spirit is recalling that he is wounded, that he is marooned on an island, that it all started with the “Jewel of Gizeh,” and that somewhere on the island he was shot.

Happy 300th episode, and here’s to 300 more! Thanks for all the work you put into it!
This made me (literally) lol! I haven’t gotten to the third intro yet over my journey of watching the show (thanks, Tubi!), but that’s the part of the song that made me laugh the most. So, yeah!

Just because I felt like it, here's my favorite pop-cultural discoveries of the year so far in movies, TV, books, and music!
This would make it into the mix, too!

Before and between the movies, I’d stick with the 1987-comedy theme and play the trailers for these movies, along with some commercials from the same year. I think it’d make a cool pre-show!
(I haven’t seen CAN’T BUY ME LOVE, but I have seen the trailer, so it’s fair game!)

I was listening to a song from THREE O’CLOCK HIGH tonight and it got me thinking:
If I owned a repertory theater, I’d definitely program this as a Friday/Saturday night double feature! I’d call it something like “One Crazy Day and One Crazy Night.”
Feeling good, Louis!
You got time to duck?
I love relics like this from the analog days of nerdiness! The fact that people had to make an effort to be nerds back in the day makes those moments more special, imo. I’m talking about letter campaigns to rescue TV shows, writing fan theories for STARLOG, and notes like this. All stuff I missed!
Bill Paxton was a really good filmmaker, and he doesn’t get enough credit for being such! It’s a shame he only directed these two feature films before leaving us (far too early), but I’m grateful we got these. Both are worth checking out!
Gotta give Bunnicula shoutouts a like whenever I find them!
(Pardon me for abandoning my "horse in this race" idiom in the first post, btw!)
(There's also a lot of HIGH NOON DNA in COP LAND, a really good movie that's long overdue for a re-discovery and/or re-evaluation. Just thought I'd mention it!)
