You're probably not doing anything wrong. Often takes time for the skin in that area to get used to something being there. Try a moisturiser, like sorbolene or my favourite is palmer's cocoa butter. It's also ok to give yourself a break from wearing it to allow the skin to heal before locking again.

I will trade you a stick of ram for those switches ;)
