Use of fixed-term posts ‘stifling more critical research’ Scholars with short contracts seen as more likely to favour doing ‘safer’ work, with ‘serious ramifications’ for their disciplines

'“Embedded precarity” in higher education is diminishing research quality as staff on short-term contracts favour “safer” work to secure future employment, according to the author of a new report.'

Royal Geographical Society maps important connections between precarity and research topics. 1/3

Being involved with DGRG has opened opportunities for me as an early career researcher to build skills, networks & connections. I strongly encourage ECRs to get involved with RGS Research Groups - it has been so helpful getting to know & work with academics across career stages.

And then a $665 non-member virutal registration fee? What justifies that cost????

6 months ago 1 0 0 0

I know there are already conversations about this in various groups and lists, but the eye-watering $1117 non-member registration fee for AAG 2026 is completely unjustifiable and unreachable for ECRs like me. Even worse seeing such interesting sessions announced that I would want to contribute to.

The FAA will now let commercial drones fly beyond the operator’s line of sight.

The move will "unleash American drone dominance," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.

As a result, Duffy said, " You may get a Starbucks cup of coffee from a drone."
