Happy 30th anniversary to “Goldfinger” by Ash.

Artwork by Microdot.

The girl in the photo still looks as cool today as she ever did. But did you know she’s also the girl with the umbrella on the artwork for “Some Might Say” by Oasis?

🚨Big Britpop anniversary alert!🚨

30 years ago today Manic Street Preachers released “A Design For Life” which is one of the most famous songs of the whole Britpop era...in fact the whole 90’s.

This was their first single after the band regrouped following Richey’s vanishing.

Happy 35th birthday to “There’s No Other Way” by Blur.

This was their second single and first to go top ten. It would be nearly 3 years until they had another next top 10 single.

That’s the music I grew up hearing from my parents record player. It’s the music that inspired a lot of the 1990’s Britpop which is my own era.

Good to hear that you’re a fan too!

30 years ago today Ocean Colour Scene released “Moseley Shoals”.

IMHO this is one of the best albums not only of the 90’s but of all time. It’s musicianship and songwriting were of a level few peers could match.

It’s become the album that music snobs judge people by.

I’ve never heard it and because of the snobbery around it, I never plan to bother.

Sometimes I open an old magazine and my heart skips a beat because I get a dose of Britpop memories that really take me back there.

This was one.

Were you team Vox or team Select?

Here’s the April 1996 editions of the two popular music magazines. Both felt like important parts of the Britpop story.

The return of Ocean Colour Scene in 1996 took the music press by surprise (or so it felt).

Here’s the band in an NME article from 30 years ago as they prepared to release the second single of their comeback and the second album of their career.
