Maybe I'll start using TextEdit instead of docs or word. Why are these things programmed to interfere so much in the writing process?
All we need is a thing that saves the words we type in the order we've typed them. Gimme copy/paste buttons and I'm all set. This was solved technology 45 years ago.

Sometimes writing a book is like making stew. There are periods where you need to just let things simmer so flavors can mix. You can't do much besides stir the pot on occasion.
While ideas are simmering in your brain, you look like an idiot. Just sitting there. But hopefully someday...flavors!

Childhood Fears #1
I grew up in Tucson, AZ. One of my earliest memories was that the Santa Catalina Mountains, north of the city, looked like the profile of a sleeping giant. I was afraid one day the giant would wake up. I always kept an eye on it as we drove around town, just in case.

Still working on books that I can't talk about yet!
Meanwhile, here are more books I am NOT working on.
Gosh, it would have been nice to have these growing up. No particular reason, heh.

macOS Sequoia introduces new features to help you be more productive and creative on Mac. Every peripheral device you own and rely on will instantly become obsolete. Get ready to go shopping! Plus! Did you hate the Microsoft Paper Clip? Thanks to an antihuman race to cram A.I. into every product, now it’s built right into the OS! Unremovable! Undeletable! Unavoidable!

The new update will pester you for eternity with laughably useless A.I. slop until you’re ready to chuck your MacBook out the window. But you won’t, because you paid so, SO much for it! There is no alternative!

In summary, you can already do everything you need with your existing operating system. But what about our needs? We recommend you throw away a perfectly good scanner which is no longer supported so we can interrupt your workflow 275 times a day with a torrent of A.I.-generated baboon puke.

xoxo, Apple

Maybe I'll share some assorted bits and pieces I find buried in the ol' hard drive. I don't remember what this odd little sketch (labeled "Dr. Hughes") was for. Your guess is as good as mine...

Book: "Sleep Groove" by Olivia Walch

Another book recommendation:
I just picked up Sleep Groove by @oliviawalch.bsky.social.
Aside from being a delightful read, I think it's gonna help me turn things around, finally.
(I could be a lost cause, but I can hope) ⏰

She's also a much better cartoonist than a research scientist has any right to be. Which isn't fair, but it really livens up the material. Anyway, read the book.

Book cover for "You Look Like a Thing and I Love You" by Janelle Shane

Working on the books for the young people, I'll do a little research here and there.
"You Look Like a Thing and I Love You" by Janelle Shane is terrific. Very funny and great at explaining the basics.
Her website aiweirdness.com is great too, if you're interested in the AI mayhem.

Like y'all, I'm aware of the mess around us. It's hard to concentrate. But I'd still like to see work that's not drowning in every immediate outrage continue to exist. I work for the kids who will inherit this mess. In this feed, I'll try to keep that in mind. We'll see how it goes...
