Glad you're ok! May your bike RIP.
I’m offering a lightly used set of regalia in UC Berkeley colors to a junior faculty member, preference for a mom and 1st gen scholar. DM me your details— I’ll ship for free.
And a bumper sticker and a t-shirt and a quaint needlepoint and....
I really wanted the plugin hybrid version, but it was like $30K more expensive than the internal combustion alternative. We don't drive much, so we spent the money on solar panels instead.
We had the same issues searching for a wagon. We test drove a Subaru (liked it) & a Volvo (loved it). Went with a used V60, & we've been very happy w/ it.
Congratulations!!! A great school & a beautiful part of the country!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Well deserved!
When you're eating meals with folks, order something you can eat with a fork, not your hands (e.g., not a cheeseburger). You'll be the center of attention/talking a lot, so it's easier to sneak in small bites that way.
Congratulations on the new job!
CONGRATS!!!
Hello #econsky. I am still trying to find people who were on hiring committees during this economics job market for a panel at the SEA meetings in November. Please reach out if you will be at the SEA and were hiring his past year.
Also, is he quoting Teenage Fan Club & De La Soul's "Fallin'" on purpose?
"Remember when I used to be dope, yeah
I owned a pocket full of fame
But look what you're doing now, well, I know, I know
I lost touch with reality, now, my personality
Is an unwanted commodity"

This is the most positive news I've ever read on this site!
That sucks! I hope you take solace in an "isn't it ironic" story that Alanis wishes she wrote.
A selfie of a fantastic student dressed as the green-skinned Elphaba from Wicked and a his jubilant professor.

The acting CDC director has now approved ACIP recs allowing anyone 6 months+ to receive an updated Covid-19 shot after discussing w/ their provider. If you are on the fence about getting an updated shot, read my in-depth take on the evidence we've accumulated on these vaccines. #publichealth
It's a great idea, but don't be surprised if you get ref reports written in iambic pentameter.
I just spoke to a fantastic former student who had a job offer rescinded after the new H1-B $100,000 fee policy was announced. "We like you... just not that much."

Does Bluey via your sister-in-law's account count?
The letter is ready, thanks to all those who helped out! Starting to gather signature now, please consider signing (link at top of letter) & spread the word.

These were two policy briefings and a peer-reviewed article produced by undergraduates under my supervision in 2023 and 2024. The letter demands that Brown take the work off its websites. Here's the work:

Cool RCT of the impact of exercise on cancer outcomes. The effect was big enough that they stopped earlier than their power calculations suggested!
😂 That paper is comedy gold! Definitely going to use it to supplement all of my "off the top of my head" bald examples in class. Thanks for sharing!
Hard to watch. Kudos to journo to getting ghoul REP Tim Burchett to say on air that we can’t afford to help (though we can, and have for years)
Lots of shit.
