Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

Palantir’s vision is the philosophy of Nazi political theorist Carl Schmitt dressed up in jeans and a hoodie.

It is fundamentally anti-humanist, presents permanent conflict as inevitable, and seeks to build a technocratic power structure without even the minimal constraints of democracy.

A line of Nazis at the Nuremburg rally, throwing Nazi salutes. Their backs are to us. Facing them is a hand-tinted group of child laborers from the early 20th century, squinting suspiciously at them.

I'm worried about AI psychosis. Specifically, I'm worried about the psychosis that makes our "capital allocators" spend *$1.4T* on the money-losingest technology in the history of the human race.

Obviously, while my musings are topical - Carl Sagan had already said the crux much more eloquently and succinctly.

The shared excitement over NASA’s recent mission compared to the general indifference to SpaceX missions speaks to the power of something seen as the product of communal human effort rather than just the ego and avarice of one obnoxious dork.

A new generation of politicians of colour is emerging in France. The backlash speaks volumes Local elections have led to a surge of racism in a country that still struggles to see itself as anything other than white, says Guardian Europe columnist Rokhaya Diallo

The disproportionate scrutiny directed at Bagayoko reveals a deep racial panic: the fear of a France embodied by Black or Brown faces – and, more fundamentally, of the erosion of a white supremacy rooted in the country’s colonial history.

‘I was beaten and tortured’: how a British father and son made a fortune in Dubai then became wanted men As the Middle East is drawn into war, expats and influencers are under pressure to only share the positive side of the UAE. In reality many are at risk of being put behind bars, and often find the UK government has little interest in helping them get out
