I don't think most homeowners in massively unequal cities like Seattle realize how much "I am a fifth generation native Seattle resident and I know we need more housing, BUT it needs to be restricted to an area nowhere near me" is an incitement to class war

A collective photo taken at Firestorm Books. Our team, including five humans and two dogs, is sitting on the sidewalk in front of the building looking relaxed. The sky is bright but cloudy and flags on the building hang without any indication of wind. The building is painted forest green and various posters and signs are visible in the windows, which reflect the sky. The largest reads "Immigrants Welcome."

Like a lot of small businesses in our region, Firestorm has been in financial distress for the last year. Hurricane Helene was our tipping point, but local cost of living increases, inflation, and higher occupancy costs are huge contributors. 1/9

You have a situation in Seattle where FBI SE CT3 is investigating the Seattle Parks Department event permitting process.

Seattle Police Department officers are on CT3.

So NSPM-7 is likely dogwalking city cops, paid by city taxpayers, to investigate another city department.

I keep increasingly emphasizing anarchism's hostility to democracy because folks really need to grapple with how democracy is tied to the evil of borders.

A majoritarian collective decision-making process requires inclusions & exclusions, and *regional* exclusion is popular pretty much everywhere.

The cartoon is a two-panel comic that illustrates the difference in reactions to being associated with political extremes.

In the first panel, a person with short black hair and a choker asks, "Are you far-right?" to a character who is visibly upset, with tears and a distorted expression. This character, labeled "CENTRIST," responds with a long, defensive rant, strongly rejecting the association with the far-right and expressing anti-immigrant sentiments.

In contrast, the second panel shows the same black-haired person asking another character, who is calm and has blond hair and a beard, "Are you far-left?" This character simply and confidently replies with "YES" in large capital letters.

I think if folks are annoyed about No Kings rallies, or any activity they think is insufficient, they should take that as a sign to organize better for what they want people to do. Organizing is at least partly about asking people to do one or more things that they actually don’t have to do.

But there is one thing they will never be able to take from me. No matter how many bills they pass or how hard they try to make us disappear, they will never take away my pride."

Under the contract, most types of officer misconduct can still go unpunished if a complaint isn't made within four years of an incident.

The 2017 ordinance removed that deadline for cases involving dishonesty or excessive force, while setting a five-year limit for most other misconduct. But those changes were never incorporated into the contract.
The new agreement lifts the four-year deadline only in limited circumstances, including if there are criminal allegations or if an officer personally conceals evidence.
In most other cases, discipline can still be barred after four years — including if someone else hides evidence of an officer's misconduct.

Seattle's latest police guild contract blocks several accountability reforms the City Council approved in 2017. For one, it allows complaints about excessive force or dishonesty by officers to go unpunished if more than four years have passed.
