We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

Sorry yall Im gonna be annoying about South of Midnight for the next month. But representation matters and seeing reactions like this reminds me how important it is to make authentic games. People want to see it and your audience will find your stories. This made me tear up.

I've learned (and I am still learning) how to run a game studio for the last seven years doing both creative and biz. Here's a list of guidelines that work for us and might be useful for others that were lessons I've incorporated with our experience and guidance from others. 🧵

In gamedev, we joke about how we shouldn't care so much because "we ain't curing cancer" so chill, right?

But you know what? These last few weeks reminded me that the Arts, esp accessible Art like videogames is incredibly important because games have a big place in sculpting cultural norms.

Happy #PointNClickFriday!

Thanks for hosting Matias - I can't wait to try your demo!

I'm making The Grift, a 19th century point and click adventure where you play as a conman.

The prototype is available on itch and any feedback would be really helpful! 😄 skinny-dog-games.itch.io/the-grift-ea...

1000xResist (with sunset visitor's Remy Siu and Pinki Li) Noclip Crewcast · Episode

Great interview with @sunsetvisitor.studio on the @noclipvideo.bsky.social podcast.

It's fascinating that they focused on removing game mechanics from 1000xResist rather than adding them. It's amazing what they did within those constraints and the narrative really benefited as a result. Loved it!

The Roottrees are Dead on Steam A genealogical mystery straight out of 1998. Scour the early Internet for clues, uncover hidden connections, and piece together the family tree behind the secretive Roottree Corporation.

Seven days into 2025 and I've already played what I suspect will be one of my favorite games of the year: The Roottrees Are Dead, a narrative logic deduction game (à la Obra Dinn) that has you searching for clues to unravel the dramatic story of a rich family store.steampowered.com/app/2754380/...

Needed a bit of a break from black and white, 19th century engravings over Christmas. So, I made my first low poly 3D model in @crocotile3d.bsky.social.

A splash of colour isn't so bad from time to time! 🎨💗

Thank you, that's very kind. I can't take too much credit for the art assets though. It's the work of 19th century artists! 😄

Room for one more? I'm a solo dev working on a historical point and click adventure. I'd love to be added if possible

Coincidentally, I read this article by @joeyschutz.bsky.social after completing Mouthwashing. In that game, it felt like nothing was wasted, with gameplay changing in each scene to reflect the narrative. It was succinct, and felt fresh and exciting for many of the reasons Joey goes into here.

I want to do a thread of games that really stuck with me this year!

I felt like I hadn’t been playing a lot this year but turns out I had and there were so many incredible games with such different playstyles

I’ll start with my top 4 of the year because that’s how many pics I can upload at once
