In one of my novels, the character "Graeme" (and Englishman) was called Graham on the almost-last page. No editor, copyeditor, proofreader or, um, author noticed it. But my brother did, the first time he read the book.

Twice a year, I am *extraordinarily* grateful that I am robust enough to handle a one-hour time shift without catastrophic results.

And it was back up a minute ago, then down again.

Maybe it's just laboring under the force of people trying to collect data...

A minor thing, in light of all the data being lost forever...

But the Social Security Name Index, the list of most common boys and girls names by year, is gone.

So much for giving characters age-appropriate names...

Fingers crossed, it's a glitch. But it's gendered so I don't have much hope.

For the WIP: Do you understand this passage? If you have people younger than thirty in your life, do they get it?

"The hallway stretches in front of me like something out of a horror movie. I look around for a pair of creepy twins, or maybe a kid on a tricycle."

So, when you and your Valentine get each other the same card, that's a good sign, right?

1 year ago 6 0 0 0

They left one of mine (in English and in Spanish) - but it's an unauthorized version from a traditional publisher. I'm reading elsewhere that this is a purge of indie books, regardless of genre. I'm waiting for an explanation from Hoopla or D2D (my distributor).

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

Yep, mine are missing. I've reached out to my distributor (D2D) and to Hoopla, but no response from either yet...

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

That may be... After I made this post, I found that all but one of mine are missing. The survivor is an unauthorized edition of a tradpub book, so I'm now looking into the removals as anti-indie, not anti-romance...

And so it begins...

Hoopla, a service that provides ebooks to libraries, has removed large numbers of romance ebooks from its database.

Glitch? Editorial decision? Chilling effect of proposed Oklahoma law that defines "unlawful pornography" as depictions of "sexual intercourse which is normal"...

While in New York last week, I was *shocked* by the amount of weed being smoked in public.

The law there is that weed can be smoked wherever cigarettes are. That means *not* inside most public spaces, but the sidewalks are fair game.

As was the subway (not legal there, but...)

It's hard to shift back to "normal" after a get-away long weekend in New York. Harry Connick Jr at the Met, the Temple of Dendur and the American Wing at the other Met, and the Queens Museum to see the scale model of NYC and a room of Tiffany glass. Stayed at a friend's on the LES. Perfect!

Rough ocean and blown snow on North Carolina's outer banks.

Rough ocean and blown snow on North Carolina's outer banks.

Back from one of my favorite vacations of the year -- the Outer Banks (North Carolina) during the dead of winter. Almost-deserted beaches, catching up on reading, bingeing TV shows, sleeping in, and eating way too much!

Plus, this year, snow!

Back home and back to routine now...

Attended a fascinating Smithsonian class yesterday about Paleolithic Cave Art, where the instructor found several dozen ways of saying, "We just don't know how/why/what they did this..."

So many mysteries that could be turned into novels...
