Friendly neighborhood financial markets knower here to remind everyone that index futures are trading at 8:30a ET, and in fact trade 23/5 from 6:00p ET to 5:00p ET. Large, liquid stocks trade extensively in pre-market/after hours ~2h before/after regular hours. “The market” is not 9:30a and 4:00p.

Book bans and attempted bans remain at record highs, with 'Sold' topping the list The American Library Association says book bans and attempted bans remain at record highs. Efforts to remove titles have become more coordinated and politicized.

"In 2025, book bans were not sparked by concerned parents, and they were not the result of local grassroots efforts. They were part of a well-funded, politically-driven campaign."

The process of clearing a parental home & setting up to sell it is . . . a lot. Culled through boxes, shelves, & cabinets for weeks, had a successful estate sale, but there are still items to dispose of plus deep cleaning, painting, & re-carpeting before putting it on the market. I am TIRED, y'all.

Also I'm just gonna say that writing is like parenting in that there's no one right answer so just do your best and you'll figure it out. The reason there's like 10 million books that say 10 million different things in the parenting section of the bookstore is because nobody knows the answer

I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."

This is very true! And as the research on the issue shows and as the Hungarian example confirms, and the Polish one before that, the key to large turnout is long-term, grass-roots organizational labor that helps people understand how their single vote is a dignified part of a larger transformation.

Good explanation from @brookings.edu on the problems with the U.S. trying to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz against Iran’s will. TL;DR Iran has asymmetric advantages to cheaply strike vessels passing through, and markets won’t be reassured until that threat is gone.
