In the long tradition of redefining language for one’s own benefit, there’s been a real co-opting of the word “gentrification” to mean “I personally can’t afford this area anymore” with no regard to who was there before you

On my way home from Ramadan prayers at the mosque& realizing how good it felt to have two hours of no phone or media. And how ancient it feels to have a border between the “worldly” and “spiritual” parts of the day.

Really nice to have at least one practice that pre-dates capitalism, Alhamdulillah.

This is making me realize that I don’t think I’ve seen any Gen AI that improves accessibility, but I’ve seen plenty of Machine Learning applications like language translation or visual descriptions that do help accessibility (and I hate that it’s all branded “AI” now)

Well… I can’t be accused of sticking to one genre #letterboxFriday #LastFourWatched

The flattening of all different types of media is so infuriating. You’re one of my favorite critics and you’re one of my favorite podcast guests, but I feel like I have a totally different relationship to your writing vs. you on something like the Filmcast

Nothing says free speech like public funds for specific content restrictions!

My favorite thing about directing is the collaboration, purely because everyone brings themselves and their own ideas, skills, and experience to the project. If an AI could execute my original “vision” perfectly, the work wouldn’t end up as good.

This is where I’m sitting now! There are still a few out there, though I do miss the mid 90s coffeehouse armchairs

I’ve followed you for ages but didn’t know you had a show! Premise sounds right up my alley, going to dive in with Tomorrowland 🚀

Back in Vancouver for the week. Paneer ads at the airport, announcements in Punjabi, and the guy next to me on the bus is doing Tai Chi in his seat. I love this place.

I haven’t seen the full thing, felt more appropriate to hit the YouTube Premium AI Summary button instead

Unreasonably gorgeous pc. And that’s coming from a Mac guy who normally bristles at cases with big windows and LEDs

Agreed, and I love McQ! But I still like the risky gotta-prove-myself energy of someone new behind the camera

Dang. I was worried about that runtime!! M:I is my favorite franchise but Dead Reckoning was so tough it gave me trust issues for this one. Really wish they kept changing up directors

Locked in and ready for a screening of Canadian-Korean feature MONGRELS at the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival!

Surreal to see friends actually make their features and put them up on screen. Been looking forward to this for a long time.

Episode 1 is honestly really rough too. Took me WEEKS to get through it somehow. And then it picks up and is delightful

As video game journalism outlets steadily disappear, we don’t just miss out on coverage of indie games that need exposure to succeed. We also lose important industry watchdogs. Fewer reporters means less scrutiny of labor conditions and industry practices, shifting even more power to AAA publishers.

Sinners dropping just 6% in its second weekend merits a much bigger headline than its $48 million opening. It is actual box-office news--news as in "This never happens." Just a giant thing, for Ryan Coogler and for the future of original material.
