I was lucky to work w/the @rhsp-ug.bsky.social team years ago. A remarkable program; please read about them. Unconscionable that their work is imperiled given funding cuts.

Rather annoying is NIH CSR sitting on an HIV-related application for 7 months, and then throwing it out.
The review cycle for HIV grant apps is supposed to be within 3 months. Submit Jan -> review in March-April.
Our two new population-based studies from #Uganda show EXTREMELY HIGH #HIV burden among female bar & sex workers & their partners w/incidence 3-6x higher than peers. Txt coverage is high, but not enough. Expanding #PrEP is essential.

“We've betrayed the trust of ministries of health and the regulatory agencies in the countries where we were working and of the women who agreed to be in our studies...I’ve never seen anything like it in my 40 years of doing international research. It’s unethical, it’s dangerous and it’s reckless.”
Stopping #PEPFAR is anything but America 1st and here’s why (from a US perspective). Over the last 20 years working in Africa, I’ve watched China make massive gains here while PEPFAR has saved millions of lives and kept America influential. Cutting it now is a grave mistake.
