Eliminating parking construction requirements in new housing advances the City's climate and housing affordability goals and will make Boston a more pleasant place to live and work. Concerns about existing parking should be addressed through a parking management program - meters, permit lottery, etc

I'm not sure how someone can go from being a safe streets hero — winning 93% (!) of the vote in an election where her opponent tried and failed to make bike lanes a wedge issue — and then opt to not treat her landslide victory as a mandate for improving her city as quickly as possible.

Disappointing that @mayorwu.boston.gov wouldn't answer this question from a constituent directly. Residents deserve to know what the city is doing to bring services back online for cyclists and pedestrians and what practical steps the city is taking to address these shortcomings in the future.

Major props to BCU for clearing out the bike lanes. It'll make the commute of countless neighbors in Allston-Brighton, including mine, safer. @streets.boston.gov failed residents during this past storm; I hope to see safety infrastructure reinstalled promptly when the City thaws.

That was fascinating to learn about Allston-Brighton zoning - we've been making it more restrictive for 100 years! No wonder our housing prices are out of control. If you missed the virtual meeting, come to the in-person one on February 11th, and let's talk about how to revitalize our community!

Great to hear from @planning.boston.gov last night. The AB Community Plan is a generational opportunity to set the neighborhood on a path to build more housing, support local businesses, and invest in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. Hope to see folks at the Wed. meeting and ABHA after-party!

Carnage of safety improvements is common along bike lanes on Western Ave. and N. Beacon St. in Allston. Destroyed flex posts haven't been replaced in months.

Why not go further (concrete separators, metal bollards, full separation) in light of inadequate infrastructure? @streets.boston.gov

Awesome night. Couldn't be more proud of all of the folks working to make AB, and Boston as a whole, a more livable community.

Interesting new working paper that studies chains of movers after the construction of a new apartment building in Honolulu.

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

As a frequent Boston <-> Trenton traveler and certified New Jersey turned Massachusetts driver, I cannot fathom this plodding approach. I'm morbidly invested.

Academics’ and planners’ single-minded focus on making *brand new* homes affordable to the poorest people has been a disaster for poor people’s’ ability to afford housing.

@amydain.bsky.social gives a good overview of the housing permit data landscape in Massachusetts. Data collection through standard permits is minimal and Census sources leave much to be desired. Kindly cites the work I do at MAPC. Lots of work to be done!

Minneapolis built more housing than any other major Midwest city & it’s not a mystery why.

They allowed modest density housing types city-wide, cut regressive parking mandates, and made it easier to build apartments near transit.

The results: more homes + slowed rent growth.
