Historical botanical illustration titled "The Aloe" from 1807, part of Linnaeus's sexual system. It depicts a detailed close-up of an aloe plant cluster with numerous fleshy green leaves and elongated yellow stamens and white pistils emerging prominently. Water droplets hang from the flower tips, emphasizing fertility and plant anatomy. The aloe is attached to a thick dark stem extending vertically on the left. In the background, a serene landscape under a cloudy sky with distant hills and a few smaller aloe plants are visible, adding depth and context to the plant’s natural habitat.

My little orange cat Benny lying on a pink cat bed on my bed with other pillows behind him and looking past the camera. He’s secure enough in his cathood to have a pink bed.
Judging by the speed with which he runs away from me when he knows it’s time for medicine, I’d say Benny is finally feeling better. We’ve still got a week of antibiotics to finish so wish me luck.

Update
BirdCast forecast of 277 million birds for the night of April 22, with Texas through the upper Midwest being the main river of birds, but also strong along the Gulf Coast, FL, and into Georgia. A giant light bulb is over the west part of the map and the text next to it reads: “Lights Off Tonight!”
The forecasts are always low; I think we easily see another over 300millon flight night this evening.

Historical illustration depicting five cobras numbered and arranged among two flowering plants. The largest cobra, labeled No. 1, has distinct white circular patterns on its hood. Smaller cobras numbered 2, 3, 4, and 5 vary in color and pattern, some with bands or hood markings. The cobras are shown with tongues flicking out, coiled and intertwined around green stems. One plant on the left has brown clustered flowers, while the plant on the right has fern-like leaves and a single bluish flower. The image is a detailed, hand-colored engraving from a 1734–1765 natural history publication.

The lynx has a thick, striped coat with shades of brown and grey, tufted ears, large paws with visible claws, and intense yellow eyes. Surrounding the animal are detailed trees, shrubs, and tall grasses. The image is a naturalistic, colored lithograph from the mid-19th century, showcasing the lynx in a poised, stalking position. The text below identifies the species and notes it was drawn by J.J. Audubon and printed in New York.

As seen in profile, a bearded aboriginal man of middle years sits with legs crossed on a perch of orange rock. He stares determinedly across flat barren plains topped by a beautiful blue sky. Breaking the upward sweeping pattern of wispy clouds, the contrail of a heavenly object arcs to the ground. Painted in indigenous style, its downward trail continues in the pictographs painted on the rock above the man. The surrounding art is a mix of decorative shapes and narrative elements. At the edge of the rock, above the contrail, a figure falls with arms and legs flailing. The older man holds a boomerang while several more rest on the stone near him. Beside him sits a boy with eyes cast dreamily upward as he grips a spear with the butt resting against the stone. Both are bare chested, wearing only loincloths.

Historical black-and-white scientific illustration depicting detailed views of two crustacean species from the Malacostraca order. The top features a large crab (Xanthodes cumatodes) with textured claws, eyes on stalks, and segmented legs, labeled at 5x magnification. Below are multiple views of Cymonomus andamanicus: a full dorsal view, ventral view with visible mouthparts, and close-ups of the carapace and claws, all intricately drawn to show fine anatomical details. The illustration is from the early 20th century Indian Marine Survey steamer Investigator, noting magnification levels and species names for scientific reference.

Each cricket is depicted with segmented bodies, long antennae, spiny legs, and visible wing patterns. The largest cricket, labeled 10, is centered and shown from a top-down angle, emphasizing its robust body and extended antennae. The background is plain beige, typical of early 19th-century scientific plates, focusing attention on the insects' morphology for study and identification. The image is from an 1813 Amsterdam publication by J.C. Sepp, illustrating the physical traits of various cricket species.
