Joao Pedro’s injury has created a very big opportunity for Liam Delap against the club who thought they were signing him last summer. Can quieten a lot of critics if he takes it

Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea return comes amid a clear Moises Caicedo contract message Enzo Fernandez will return to Chelsea's squad for the game against Manchester United — just after Moises Caicedo agreed a new contract

Back in 2023, a phone call from Fernandez helped persuade Caicedo to join Chelsea over Liverpool.

Three years on, Caicedo’s place at the heart of BlueCo’s project looks far more assured.

Chelsea handed another crushing reminder of how far they are off the elite BlueCo-era Chelsea have consciously tried to mould themselves on Manchester City, but have overlooked the key ingredients

Man City are now 13 games unbeaten against Chelsea since Porto. Arsenal haven’t lost to them in the last 11 meetings.

In the fourth season of this BlueCo project, Chelsea too often fail to beat or even compete against the best.

Who should captain Chelsea for the rest of the season? Several candidates may want the responsibility for the rest of this season and beyond if Fernandez is deemed unworthy of the armband

Who should captain Chelsea on the pitch for the rest of the season (or until James gets back)?

Fernandez feels like an awkward choice now, so here are some (not entirely serious) alternatives

Marc Cucurella’s Chelsea concerns will resonate with fans. Will the club act on them? Cucurella is one of the most popular players at Stamford Bridge — and that status lends authority to his opinions

Cucurella is the second member of this Chelsea squad's leadership group to publicly lament Maresca's departure. He has also questioned the club's recruitment policy.

Concerns raised from within are much harder to dismiss. How will Chelsea respond?

Rosenior didn’t walk into a good situation (it’s increasingly clear why Maresca was so keen to leave in January), but some of his tactical and personnel decisions have been pretty hard to understand, let alone justify.

Chelsea conceding this many easy goals isn’t remotely tenable
