Absolutely maddening. BV occasionally still tries to suggest we make margaritas when we have lemon juice but no lime juice and I’m just like:

You bring up a good point.
Also, you need a lime? Not a lemon? And no they aren’t the same thing despite multiple Germans I’ve spoken to being convinced of that?
Oh no. Oh noooooo. 🤦♀️
If anyone at DM is in charge of hiring people to come up with random English words to slap on their products, drop me a line because this is… not it.
It’s going. We found something we mostly like and it’s getting to be decision time. But it feels like a monumental move at the moment and we’re both kind of struggling with what to do.
Did you do Goethe? I did TELC but my speaking partner had prepared using Goethe materials and this sounds like what she described. TELC wasn’t wildly different, but she had kind of memorized answers and completely missed the point of our third task, which was not great.
They just talked at the gate pretty sure. So they didn’t even go in downstairs. We def aren’t letting anyone in without the official notice period or without our landlord also present bc she’s being shady af.
More random people ringing our bell during nap time, landlady goes out to talk to them. Her efforts to shop the house around to half the town apparently continue. 🙄🙄🙄
I mean fair, my hot water bottles are slightly less portable on the commute for sure
Wake up babes, new peak German product just dropped.
And it’s the end (please god, I hope) of the constant Kita plague season… Uhoh.
Things to consider if we’re going to have to move soon: are we going to be able to get 20 more stamps from our pharmacy to finish our card before we go? I want my hard-earned €7.50 discount.
Congrats! Get to studying, though I didn’t think the B1 was all that bad (ymmv) 🤣
*a shit situation.
Good luck with the offer! Will keep my fingers crossed for you. The apartment things is such a situation but hey, at least now you know.
It is *fascinating* to me how quickly some people have gone completely from “we all must work in the office! human collaboration is vital and only happens in person!” to “I can replace all these pesky people with chatbots!” Definitely some commentary there about our society and who gets to choose.
Thanks! Appreciate y’all taking the venting as I shout into the proverbial void here.
But there will likely be another chat with the Mietverein lawyer in the future to see what we can do.
Got me. 🤷♀️ it’s a hot mess. I’d guess they probably thought they’d be able to get way more for it than is realistic, given they’ve done minimal maintenance and zero updates all these years.
(Our landlord also says he doesn’t want that but his wife hates this house so she seemed to be the one contacting realtors and shopping it around aggressively. Saw her speaking to the new neighbors one day and it’s not like she knew them from years ago like the others).
For sure. The neighbors knows they are in general difficult, so he’s been very transparent. Both neighbors have kids in their 20s so they’re looking at it for them, and don’t want an investor coming in and causing chaos.
Yeah. He told us everything. It’s honestly kind of hilarious apart from the fact that it’s making me murderous and crazy.
Had the same thought but also re: them shopping it to the neighbors who said they wouldn’t outbid us (they know what we first offered).
*move far.
We will. Not even sure we want to given the state of it, but unfortunately there’s nothing else even reasonably in our price range in town and we’d so much rather stay than move.
Typically yeah. This is a case of Verwertungskünfigung so that’s how they’re justifying it. Old house, they’ve done only the most necessary maintenance in the 13 years I’ve been here, it needs a ton of work. No clue what state the downstairs is in.
Fucking asshats! Ours supposedly have other concrete offers. We don’t know where from, our neighbors are interested but said they wouldn’t outbid us. They were here Sunday to have a look, with our asshat landlords who smiled, said nothing about their price again and then we get a letter today.
No we made an offer. Asked what range they were looking for, said we were willing to negotiate.
