This to me is maybe the most heartwrenching line uttered in all of classic Ultraman and the way it gets completely thrown out in the end is reminiscent of Leo, but even worse given Yullian's identity as a princess who wanted nothing more than to live a mundane and action-packed life
And this jarring bitterness is multiplied tenfold by the directly preceding episode having Yullian go through an emotional breakdown and desperately proclaim between sobs that she wishes she was born an earthling, only for the finale to completely ignore her feelings and agency.

Guess Ingrid really is Capcom’s idol after all, huh?✨

The problem with 80's finale is that it is the most cynical, bitter and regressive reading of those ideas possible, where humanity shoos Ultraman 80 off their doorstep not for any material reason but out of pride and ego.
The thing about Ultra finales is that they are all in conversation with each other. They are all different permutations of the same basic ideas: humanity's strength and ability to defend itself, the relationship it has with the titular Ultra, and what the Ultra wants to be remembered for.
Birth of Diana ❤️
Nothing in the world will convince me that Diana being a bastard of Zeus is better than her being made from clay by Hippolyta

40 episodes of prime grade certified television undercut by the last ten episodes giving the wheel to the last man on the entire planet that should have had it. One bad decision was the difference between the classic era of Ultraman ending with dignity and... this.
40. Ultraman 80 (TV series, 1980-81)
I've loved you so long
Since you were a child
I've cared for your every need
I've tried to make you smile
When all the while
You wanted to leave
You wanted to leave.
Wow! She reaches a breaking point with him in the show's penultimate episode! I'm sure this will lead to an incredible, drama-filled finale! I'm sure the final episode won't pretend none of this happened and just do some random bullshit instead!
Tsupro on Ultraman 80 be like "Let's introduce a female Ultra warrior and make her very compelling and unique and unlike any other Ultra warrior so far and then only introduce her in the last ten episodes and give her no screentime and only a single fight on purpose."
Like it all really fell apart the moment they just gave Ishido full power over the show. All of Ultra's downfall post Taro can be traced to Ishido, whether it be here with 80 or Leo which was headed by Ishido's direct student. Jonias did great and was great and it had no Ishido influence
Like they knew they were gonna die you know, and this was the note they chose to end on. Instead of being honest with the kids and giving them something big to remember. We lie and say see you next time folks. Things are gonna go on as usual
You can highkey keep watching till Yullian shows up though
Toshiro Ishido went from hanging out with Oshima Nagisa and then became hard right, war crime denying, imperialist leaning, traditionalist who got blacklisted from most studios due to being too radical as well as the failure of Ultraman 80... yet still Hayao Miyazaki would still associate with him
IT'S NOT EVEN HERE! IT'S JUST A ROBOT THAT LOOKS LIKE HER AND HAS HER NAME! SPIT IN THE FACE OF DEATH IN THE MOST SHALLOW WAY POSSIBLE MOTHER FUCKERS!
CAN YOU TELL THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A FASCIST OLD MAN
Like and it could've been fixed so easily by saying something like "We can't rely on you forever, 80, because we know that Ultras have a habit of leaving to help others out in the stars. We can't be selfish and ask you to stay here forever. Please let us fight and show you what we've learned" BUT NO
Bret Hart calmly saying "fuck you" to Hulk Hogan as "Red Right Hand" plays is going to turn in to a legendary Internet wrestling meme, isn't it?
勇者ヨシヒコ
Fukukitaru being raised very religious and losing her older sister at a very young age are the two puzzle pieces that make everything about her click huh
Ever played Ultima or Wizardy
Prime: "It's Amazing Man you dumbass"
"You should be used to this by now! Everyone uses your short attention span against you! Heck! Remember when you were 16 and I distracted you with an ice cream truck! An ice cream truck, Wally! You get on that Impulse's case about his attention span, but look at you!"
I LOVE WALLY AND LEONARD'S DYNAMIC CAUSE IT IS JUST LIKE, IF WALLY HAD AN UNCLE WHO KEPT YELLING AT HIM FOR STILL BEING A STUPID KID EVEN THOUGH HE IS LIKE 30 NOW
"They know you are a person, Wally, public identity. They'll give you a break"
"No, they won't. All the public identity does is make them just think I'm a celebrity now. It's not like the good old days before phones, you know"
"Don't say that, don't make me feel ancient"
"YOU ALL ARE SO BAD AT ENDANGERING YOURSELVES! YOU'RE ACTUALLY ENDANGERING YOURSELVES! WHAT'S UP WITH THAT!?"
The adventures of Wally "I Hate The Youth" West
So happy to say I got another commission from @adambrycethomas.bsky.social! This time of Lanolin dressed as Black Canary from DC. I figured the mashup fit since they both have sound-based powers. He knocked the idea out of the park!
