Data centers are LANDLORDS. They would rather have shit sit empty and unused (assuming they’ve made a big enough capital investment already) and eat bills at a negative ROI for a few months if they can rent the space out for 1.5-2x the price they’d get with old tech.

There was a 400k sf clean space (semiconductor) sitting empty (but running, and maintaining clean room requirements) for MONTHS because of a new tech/new tools being available. It was cheaper to pay the massive utility bills monthly than pay the effort of guaranteeing the space is clean again
