The opinionated thick old white male racist we’ve all come across from time to time is in charge of the world.
Warm beer is a bit of an insult!
What nobody mentions re Tesla is their supercharger network. They are relatively cheap but only for Tesla owners and they make long distance road trips (which I make quite often) easy and inexpensive. In Europe in any case I don’t know how it is in the Banana republic formerly known as the USA.
An Amsterdam coffee shop?
It doesn’t matter whether the rate of global warming is increasing. It’ll never cease to amaze me that people don’t care that it’s happening at all. It should be the most alarming thing ever.
I have always regarded the Waal as the real Rhine because it carries 65% of the volume; the Neder Rijn / Lek carries 20% of the volume. The IJssel does not flow into the Pannerden kanaal, it splits off and carries 15% of the original Rhine water with it. Your book has the IJssel entering the Rhine.
The smaller offshoot starts as the Pannerden Kanaal. At Arnhem this splits into the IJssel which flows to the IJssel Meer and other split off is the Neder Rijn which does not change but gets renamed the Lek after crossing the canal. This eventually forms the nieuwe waterweg.
The Rhine enters NL at Millingen. It splits into 2 there and the main body of water becomes the Waal which flows through NL from east to west, splits again into the Boven Merwede and the Merwede. The Merwede joins with the Maas and these 2 form the Hollands Diep.
@bencoates1.bsky.social Hi Ben, I’m loving reading your book “The Rhine”. Excellent mix of commentary on present day and history and the relationship or the two. I’m a river nerd myself and one or two points: (I hope you don’t mind!)
I hate how accurate this tweet is.
Interestingly, by providing electricity during peak demand, this will better balance the electricity grid, and allow more renewables to be used. www.rte.ie/news/2026/02...
He played an absolutely blinding international role when the financial crisis hit.
So it’s also true for any number p3 or greater squared - 1 is always a multiple of 8?
Woody Harrelson, "It seems like we're going backwards"
"I wish there was a way to get rid of that son of a b*tch and get in a great president"
"It doesn't seem like that's going to happen"
Good to see Alan Shearer in it too, I assume he’s in agreement as he would have moved it on otherwise.
Thanks @josiesouth.bsky.social for coming to talk to us about #Crayfish invasions in our external seminar! Lots of important take-aways about the health and social implications of changing #freshwater #ecosystems and the importance of sharing data 🎣
I looked it up, apparently that was a thing for a while in the early 80s
Tbh I don’t remember there being much or any comment in the UK on Mandelson’s sexuality either when he was appointed ambassador to the U.S.
Blij dat ik een EV heb maar ik vind het sneu voor de mensen met benzine of diesel auto’s.
I remember the night he was elected and thinking distinctly to myself that there was real hope for the world. How wrong I was 🙂↕️
They’ll be the rational ones!
I’m a Yorkshireman from that area. But never mind that; a slew *is* expected A set is singular.
Both sound worth a read. The Rhine - do you look at pollution, clean up in recent decades, fish stocks?
Or even mentions it.
Where’s the lead input on the lower one?
Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas is just a delight on every level
Range anxiety is irrational. Normal commutes or trips out shopping whatever will not empty a battery and road trips are no problem using super chargers during the trip. That is unless you live in a 3rd world country like the USA.
