The media blackout of Jared Kushner’s historic, ongoing corruption scandal As Trump's son-in-law returns to Pakistan for more talks with Iran, major news outlets are largely ignoring an egregious

As Trump's war on Iran continues, reminder that his own son-in-law Jared Kushner — who is leading negotiations with Iran — stands to profit from lucrative contracts with its regional rivals.

War gives dictators like Trump (and his family) more power and more wealth.

Canada’s aeronautical industry is also mainly located in Montreal. (Ontario has the auto industry. We have aeronautics.)

They’re on the south shore of Montreal so technically not IN Montreal per se but in a bedroom community just over the bridge across the river. 😊

Sweden's military intelligence is clear, in an exclusive interview with the Financial Times: Russia is cooking the books. Real inflation near 15%, a hidden $30bn budget gap, a defence sector rife with corruption — and oil windfalls that won't last. 1/2

and now speaks pretty decent French. Last week I told him his accent in French is way better than his accent in English! (He’s Italian so that makes sense. Much easier than for anglophones.)
I saw numerous comments from Québécois who really appreciated Hansen’s efforts! Thanks for the article!

The Canadian Space Agency is located in Montreal and though they hire people from across the country, the main work language is French and they are given classes as part of their work week if they don’t speak it already. My nephew (PhD in engineering) moved here from Toronto 2 yrs ago to work there

A step away from asking the Russians to investigate their own influence operations in the US. The guiding principle of Trump policy is that Russian ops are good because they support him personally. The guiding principle of Russian policy is that Trump is good because he wrecks the US & helps Russia.

At some point it becomes second nature. You probably didn’t even realize you were using the subjunctive following the many expressions that require it (Il faut que… j’espère que… je veux que…).

You will slip through as a fluent speaker but not as a native one if you ignore the subjunctive etc. Just sayin’. Of course everyone always appreciates when foreigners make the effort to speak your language. Working with children of immigrants I learned to at least say thank you in their language.

I get it! In the context you describe, it was clearly meant for fun and not to insult. ⚜️

Speak white - Wikipedia

That can be innocently said of course and funny but here in Quebec we are hyper sensitive about that sort of thing. A Québécois might very well walk off the stage and punch the guy saying that! (More 40-50 yrs ago than today but still…)

On just one night this week, Russia sent nearly 700 drones & dozens of missiles at Ukrainian civilians. In the 5th year of the war, aerial attacks on Ukrainian civilians have become even more intense & more frequent. Please join me in this campaign for air defense equipment. You can help save lives.

The putinization of the US continues:

War criminals will always try to justify their war crimes. I’m sure the (mostly) Saudi 9/11 terrorists had no problem justifying their target of the twin towers.

It was great to meet all the ‘regulars’ who continue to protest (almost daily) in front of the russian embassy in Ottawa 🇨🇦. Let’s do it again soon!

Decades ago when I was at university in France, I got a kick out of French argot as well. Ex: Mon frangin est allé pieuter dans sa piaule. 😁

Nothing like having a girl/boyfriend for learning a language!

… when speaking with a Glaswegian and I would have a hard time in Northern France with the Ch’tis. I also need subtitles with French movies that use a lot of Parisian ‘argot’ (barely a French word in a short sentence, lol). So yeah, language variations exist!

Just to be clear: in Quebec we speak French, not a dialect. Native French speakers have no problem understanding us (unless we put on a strong ‘street accent’). There are British and French regional accents that are also difficult to understand even for native speakers. I once needed a ‘translator’
