Exeter’s got a two-year teaching stint for someone into philosophy of data and related - the job’s pretty plush as far as non-permanent ones go - and Exeter is an amazing place to do this kind of philosophy - please pass around! www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DQZ094/l... #philsci

Chatbots don’t just make things up—they generate and spread gossip, complete with negative evaluations and juicy rumours that can cause real-world harm, according to new analysis by @joelkrueger.com and @lucyosler.bsky.social from the University of Exeter @uniofexeterhass.bsky.social
The AI gossip paper @joelkrueger.com and I wrote got picked up by Vice! We argue that chatbots generate gossip about people and consider how this gossip becomes ‘feral’ without the social constraints that usually moderate human rumor-spreading

AI chatbots are increasingly generating and spreading gossip, which can lead to reputational harm, anxiety, and social unrest as these outputs circulate widely and unchecked. doi.org/hbgmbz
Really excited to be organising this one. Such a fantastic group of speakers. I can’t wait to discuss with them about what atmospheres are, how they unfold and why they matter.

So— just attended a fab talk about 'AI Gossip' by @joelkrueger.com. Joel, I hope you get to see this! Did some more jailbreaking of ChatGPT and got it to say some pretty mean gossip-y stuff about @kevinroose.com... in fact, it got pretty out of hand. It told me I wasn't safe— see below!
Ha, this is wild! So much better — and so much more intense! — than the examples I gave in the talk. You’ve clearly broken this bot. 😆 Thanks for sharing!
👂Registrations are now open for our Narrative and Cognition Lab talk on AI and Gossip!
Can AI Gossip? Join our speaker @joelkrueger.com online or in-person on 20 Feb (1-2.30PM) as he explores the hows and harms of AI gossip.
