Impact of ENSO on Nitrous Oxide Emission in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a powerful greenhouse gas, with the ocean contributing ~4.2 Tg N y-1 to global N2O emissions. The Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP) is a hotspot of N2O emissions due to high N2O pr...

🌊 Surprisingly stable: nitrous oxide emissions only vary by 17% during ENSO events in the Eastern Tropical Pacific.

In our new preprint, we identify the mechanism behind the limited variability — and discuss the importance of this mechanism in the future. 🌎

I presented my work on "The Impact of ENSO on N2O Emission in the Eastern Tropical Pacific" at #ICoN9 hosted by @mpimarinemicrobio.bsky.social. It's been a very insightful meeting, and I learnt a lot, particularly from all the microbiologists investigating the nitty-gritty details of the N cylce 🤓🧫🌊

Me and the @upgroup.bsky.social get excited about those gap winds ⤵️, because we're studying their impact on marine N2O emission. 🌊
If you're invited to give a talk in our group and show data from the Pacific, be prepared for questions about the impact of gap winds on whatever you study! 🤓
