Trump Has a Pattern of Thinking He’s America’s Messiah This isn’t the first time he’s done this. Here are four other times Trump portrayed himself as a savior.

A quick look at all the *OTHER* times President Trump has likened himself to Jesus, by @revdrmichaelwoolf.bsky.social via @sojo.net : sojo.net/articles/opi...

How Pope Leo XIV Understands His Role in Politics Leo doesn’t want to be seen as a rival to President Trump. That doesn’t mean he thinks the gospel is apolitical.

“The Catholic Social Teaching tradition that Pope Leo belongs to would frame this as: No, he’s not a politician; yes, the gospel is political," Anna Rowlands told @mitchellatencio.com for @sojo.net.

We don't generally publish expletives on @sojo.net but I think everyone should read the president's exact words about his plans for Iran--and weep.

Tradwife movement ‘attracts men who are hostile to women’ The strongest predictor of support for women staying at home and deferring to their husband is not, as researchers expected, chivalry but ‘hostile sexism’

Sounds super fun.

The study "suggests that men [who support tradwife lifestyles] rely on women for intimacy and resent that this is the case,” Robnett said.

Extremely proud to see the latest issue of Sojourners out in the world. It features a beautiful essay by (and photo of!) @artwithin.bsky.social. We're not really a publication that does a lot of cover photoshoots, but this special story merited an exception. 💞

Definition of MAUNDY a ceremony of washing the feet of the poor on Maundy Thursday; alms distributed in connection with the maundy ceremony or on Maundy Thursday; maundy money… See the full definition

I will save you the google: It comes from Latin "mandatum" and refers to Jesus' command to love one other. So it's basically "love commandment Thursday" (admittedly less catchy)

After Chávez Abuse Allegations, Faith Leaders Refocus on Farmworkers How movements inspired by Chávez’ Catholic nonviolence and labor justice are reckoning with the fallout of his disgrace.

Sacrifice from those at the bottom and privilege for the leadership level is the opposite of a real movement that claims to represent the most vulnerable, Baldemar Velásquez, leader of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, told Bekah McNeel in her reporting for @sojo.net

Kings Start Wars. Christians Stop Them The violence Trump has unleashed in Iran ignores what the prophets teach: War is more effective at creating orphans and widows than in delivering justice and peace.

new from me: “War kills people. That’s what it does. War kills and maims and rapes and, over the whole course of history, has proven to be far more effective at creating orphans and widows than in delivering justice and peace.”

War doesn't bring peace. War "has proven to be far more effective at creating orphans and widows than in delivering justice and peace."

The massive cuts he "touts" are only for the richest among us.

The "Big Ugly Bill" doubled & even tripled the cost of health care for millions of Americans to finance the tax cuts for billionaires.

U.S. billionaires got $1.5 T richer during Trump’s first year back in office

This Nation’s Violence Is No Longer Private Once confined to prisons and wars, our worst human instincts are no longer hidden—they’re paraded on city streets.

“Unrestrained violence and unthinkable cruelty of federal immigration agents has been captured on video by hundreds ... Federal immigration agents’ actions have been memorialized in scores of court cases. Abuse is happening in public, not private. And there is no shame.”—Vincent Lloyd for @sojo.net

The Authoritarian Playbook - Protect Democracy Today’s authoritarian playbook is a process that happens piecemeal and is hard to distinguish from normal political jockeying.

Just gonna leave this here:
"Autocratic movements and regimes tend to weaken not only freedom of speech and of the press, but also the influence of public voices (often media or civil society) that could serve as vocal counterpoints to the autocratic faction." protectdemocracy.org/work/the-aut...

Federal Agents Arrest Don Lemon Over Minnesota Church Protest

Journalists who report on protests establish facts of what happens; they hold both protesters and law enforcement accountable.

Arresting journalists suggests people in power want to keep the public from knowing the truth. It's easier to lie when there aren't facts.

It’s bananas to me that a judge had to order this. Lawfully admitted refugees are just that: *lawfully admitted* to this country to escape a threat.

Everything we’ve seen in Minnesota is bad, but when agents go after even those who have legal status, it reveals that this isn’t about the law.
