The three essentials of recognising a scam:

1. Emotion. Scammers want to elicit an emotional response, not a rational one.

2. Movement of money. You lose, they gain!

3. Urgency. It needs to be done NOW!

Ostriches (apocryphally) bury their heads in the sand.

When it comes to the possibility of being scammed, this is clearly the wrong thing to do.

Instead, be an emu!
