The Hawks shot 1-12 from three in the second half and somehow won that game anyway.
(i can pretty much guarantee you there are some hilarious old takes exposed tweets about the hawks being "dead" or different variations of that from earlier tonight)
It was a wild one, but the Hawks just stole Game 2 and home-court advantage in the series.
Atlanta trailed by as many as 14 in the 2nd half and by 12 after 3 quarters.
32 points for CJ McCollum, who is suddenly quite popular in New York.
Breakdown to come on the Locked On Hawks Podcast.
::officially books travel for game five::
the one thing you can't do with a 4-point lead there is allow an immediate three
which is what the hawks did
(with a very friendly roll for brunson)
15-3 run for the Hawks over the last 5 minutes.
Atlanta leads by 4 with 10.2 seconds remaining after a runout dunk from Jalen Johnson set up by an awesome strip from NAW on Brunson.
Brunson's 3 to tie it was New York's first points in more than 4 minutes.
Ended an 11-0 run for Atlanta.
Hawks lead for the first time in the second half.
Hawks within 1 with 2:49 to go.
Just squandered a chance to take the lead with a bad turnover, but prior to that, it's been a strong 4th quarter.
NAW finally got a 3 to go after Atlanta missed 12 straight from deep, and Kuminga has had some nice flashes.
Hawks over-passed in a big way on that possession, ended up with a tough shot at the shot clock buzzer.
Miss led to semi-transition for New York and back to an 8-point deficit.
Timeout with 5:25 left at MSG.
25 fouls on the Hawks, including another one at the halfcourt line that ATL's bench was not pleased about.
6-point swing there with the Knicks missing two straight wide open 3's and Kuminga answering with a 3-point play
In contrast to what happened in Game 1, the Hawks came out and threw a (figurative) punch to begin Q4 with Brunson and Towns on the bench.
Atlanta back within 8.
Hawks down 12 at the end of Q3.
Had some chances but went 0-9 (!) from three in the quarter.
Near impossible to make up ground with that.
This game is playing out a lot like the more negative projections before the series.
Hawks can't score in the halfcourt and can't get a defensive rebound.
Have been able to run and get stuff in transition, but losing the math battle.
Didn't bite them there because Kuminga was flying down for the tip-in, but another miss from Johnson in transition that could've been costly.
Hawks immediately send Tony Bradley for Mo Gueye in when Mitchell Robinson checks in.
(Note: Okongwu has 4 fouls)
Hawks down 7 at the half.
Offense was much better in Q2 but lost the final 3 minutes of the quarter by seven points.
18 big points for McCollum.
Hawks still waiting for their best player to awaken after an absolutely brutal half for Jalen Johnson.
3rd foul on Dyson Daniels with 2:58 left in the first half
0.00000000001% chance of that
The Hawks may be able to win an individual game with Jalen Johnson playing like this, but they definitely can't win the series with him playing like this.
Way easier to get away with Kispert when the opponent decides to play almost a full bench unit featuring almost no one who could target him on defense.
Quin should send a fruit basket to Mike Brown for that one.
Sitting back and laughing about the Corey Kispert + Tony Bradley playoff lineup that we all envisioned.
Hawks clearly searching for anything on offense and giving Kispert a chance.
Mo Gueye is questionable to return.
Right hip contusion is the official designation.
Hawks down 9 at the end of Q1. 3-10 on twos and losing the possession battle.
Not a good formula.
3 points on 0-5 combined shooting for Atlanta's two leading scorers.
Dyson Daniels took some exception to Mitchell Robinson walking over him after an offensive foul.
Minor skirmish.
