I think this is the closest I'll get
Trying to learn active ragdoll and I've made some strange progress
Help me take another bonkers pic this year (Pic is me on a bike in the rain, shouting triumphantly with my fist in the air) Donate to GDoCExpo and I'll ride 40 miles
I'm riding 40 miles in the 5 Boro Bike Tour May 3 to raise funds for @gdocexpo.com!
GDoCExpo has granted over $400K to game devs of color. Last year's event had 1,200+ attendees online & at 14 IRL watch parties, 1M+ showcase views.
Donate now, it's tax-deductible: givebutter.com/GDoCBike/cattsmall
Yes, I love that. Ha, wrote my self reply after I saw this. Wish more games did that.
It'll also just turn into a single player game after which I wish more server shutdown games did. Even competitive multiplayer games that get shut down should still allow us to roam around an empty map at least.
Bought Book of Travels today. I don't play MMOs but I've suddenly become interested because it's shutting down. Adds a melancholic meta narrative layer to the game. Since it's also a slower more meditative experience, it feels like the online equivalent to Season: A Letter to the Future
Working on the Japanese version of Solastalgia. Translation provided by @nicolith.bsky.social who has translated games like Mouthwashing, Arctic Eggs, 'No, I'm not a Human', & other small & big indie games. This version will premiere at an exhibition in June
Warning: Loud discordant noises in video
Strongly considering making my own super tiny game engine for one very specific extremely small experience. The act of making the engine as the art piece. I have almost zero knowledge of what it takes to make an engine, but I want to burn the food in my own messy invention.
Full movie link. Low budget aside, it's very apparent from the start that you are watching a nationalist film. But it's kinda entertaining in its own messy way.

When I traveled to Ethiopia recently, I watched this hacker thriller film on the plane. There's a scene where a girl goes on a long explanation about the fundamentals of web development to the point it kinda feels like mid movie lecture
before and after post processing
I've been spending lots of time on post processing and camera movement. I'm heavily inspired by filmmakers Béla Tarr and Terrence Malick.
This was initially about 8 games, but I brought it down to 3 that matched the vibe I was going for. Atmospheric, esoteric, and mysterious. Check them out (and the glittery star tiled background on the page ✨✨✨)
Went to The International House of Curry aka CoCo Ichibanya WORLD, aka fast food chain cosplaying as fancy food. Was good. Met up with indie game translator extraordinaire @npckc.net and @nicolith.bsky.social. Many games nominated at A MAZE. were translated into Japanese by nicolith. So cool.
I still don't know how I survived making this. Try out Dust to Dust (extreme seizure warning) and all the other games that use Counter-Strike as the material for art.
Congrats. So cool.
Check out Dinwaa. It's a short visual novel about life as a switchboard operator in 1911 Chinatown. The Chinese Telephone Exchange was operated by a group of women that spoke five dialects of Chinese and had over 2000 names and numbers memorized.
Most of my games use creative commons or public domain models. I usually edit them a bit by apply new materials, shaders, and textures. Learning Blender has always been something that I feel would free me from a lot of creative constraints, so I've started the slow process of learning it.

Counter-Strike as creative material. These projects use the classic multiplayer shooter as a canvas for artistic experimentation.
Each nomination is part of a ritual for me. Clear desk, make tea, play and take notes, go for walk, reflect, write, repeat. If I notice I'm tired or distracted before playing, I won't start. I don't want any part of this to feel like a chore. Would be unfair to the game. Rest is important.
Started playing the nominations. It's been a really enjoyable experience. I'm making sure to write lots of notes and to play with a clear focused mind. After every game I go for a long walk to reflect and think instead of moving on to the next one. Treating every game with full care and attention.

I manually search for everything on various websites using their tag and filtering systems. Most information is on the devs page.
To find "start to finish" time is rare, but I'm sure they would be happy to answer. Sometimes you can see a blog about the process or how many days/hours it took them.
Research, metadata gathering, and page setup takes some time. I have a workflow that's getting better. I don't use an API, it's all manually added since all game data APIs don't include many itchio, and other small games.
This week I've been really focused on some unique curated lists for @exhibitplay.com.
- Struggling Standup Comedians
- Arthouse Counter-Strike
- Diegetic Game Boy Gameplay
- Desert Wandering (focused on minimal gameplay, atmosphere, getting lost)
- Wintery Wandering (same as above but winter)
I made my first original blender model. It's an Ethiopian basket. Used as wall decoration, but also to hold items or food. Texture sourced from a recent trip to Ethiopia.
