Do not let this vote and other embarrassing, disgusting actions from this administration be the voice of our country. Speak out loudly for what is right. Never stop doing so
Out of the darkness unfolded a massive leg.
Wynn remembered what Rawiya had told her before handing her the key. That the darkness was hungry.
Rawiya hadn’t told her that it became what it had eaten.

Long ago, Amar had tried to keep the wiring going on inside the tall buildings.
He’d stopped trying after Zuri’s mother passed.
Now, the interior crouched low and close around them like the den of some mystical beast. #horrorlit #booksky #speclit #writing #horror #amwriting #wipsnips
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: “I was literally begging the agent who was holding me back to let me do CPR,” she told The Intercept.
This, the empty lower deck. The only smells that drifted through the cabin were the stink of standing water, the slow rot of damp things. His humans weren’t here. They weren’t here at all.
He supposed they weren’t anywhere, anymore.

Ida pressed flat against a tree, her skirt and shirt melding into the bark. With her large, blue eyes framed in her heart-shaped face, she looked like a nocturnal bird of prey. A startled owl, a hungry nighthawk. “Be still,” Ida whispered.

Please call the Senate they will vote very soon on whether to allow dangerous sulfide-ore copper mining on the edges of Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Tell them to vote NO on House Joint Resolution 140 (H.J. Res. 140).
Thank you so much for the kind words! It's from a larger piece: "What We Lock Behind the Gates."

Everything the book wanted me to hear and learn and care about was suddenly there right in front of me. And that was as much because of the human translator as it was Dostoevsky himself. Please stand up for translators like you would writers and narrators and illustrators. 4/4)
My favorite book of all time is Crime and Punishment. The first time I picked it up, I couldn't get past the first chapter. No shade at all to that translator, but it wasn't for me. The second time I picked it up, the translation was like reading a whole new book. (3/4)
Translation is taking the author's style, their voice, their message, and weaving it through incredible mastery from the language they speak to one they don't. A computer program can't do this. A language learning model can't do this. It is as much a creative art as writing the book itself (2/4)
Just learned about the Harlequin France AI translator news. To me, this is completely unacceptable. Translating books is not about just taking a word in one language and changing it to another. 1/4) #harlequin #harpercollins #AIslop #writingcommunity

Never in the history of the US has any president openly and repeatedly called for the investigation, arrest & prosecution of his political opponents. While many continue to shrug these things off and normalize them, I will never stop pointing out that this is what autocrats do.
So, so humbled to be part of this list with so many amazing authors. It feels so much like dream to be part of this- thank you @diabolicalplots.com for such an incredible opportunity to be part of this!

Look at this handsome friend we met today on our walk❤️
We also met a spider that looked like bird poop, but my camera was too overcome by its beauty that it refused to take a clear picture.

She's here. She's finally here. This beaut—it ties together 4 years of writing & refining the same 105k words until we wanted to feed it to our dogs. But we made it. We persevered. And we're so, so glad we did.
