Ok bonus but when we rotated into Set design, I pitched Paradigm because in a set about instants and sorceries, Epic spells are just too epic to not give another shake at. Nice set @reggievalk.bsky.social !

And lastly we have some of my low rarity faves. Diary of Dreams is a relic from a very early idea where tons of cards made you one of these (max 1) so each player has their own spellbook of sorts. Page was my shot at a cutie like Codie and I just think Grandeur is neat 🤓

The keyword-grafting Dragons and powerful school related artifacts all began in Vision! High rarity cycles are always something we try to outline before handoff to Set.

I went absolutely nuts making X-cost matters cards for Quandrix. It was the whole school’s theme but was pared down to more of a feature to pair with Increment. Smart choice haha.

Archaics! We wanted to give these guys some kind of mechanical link. Vision’s take likewise used 2-brid mana, but in a different way. Also this buddy I called “The Giga Archaic” at the time.

Prepared Spells! This one is pretty obvious. We spent most of Vision figuring out how best to use this mechanic across all rarities and how its presence might impact other designs.

As the Vision Design lead on Secrets of Strixhaven, my job was to figure out what the set should showcase. We build out a whole card set to do this. All cards change over development, with just those “showcase” points shining thru. Here’s a few examples: (1/7)
