Me, time traveling to 1998 right before I’m thrown into the psych ward:
“You half to believe me, that one guy from Mr. Show gets nominated for some awards then goes on the be an action star!”

No one is talking about the really impressive part about the Artemis mission: that they brought Stanley Kubrick out of hiding to direct this one, too.
Don’t forget “I have nothing to contribute to the discourse so I’m going to say it’s a trope when it’s clearly not.”
You: JD Vance stole his newest book title from bell hooks.
Me, with better theory that explains so much more:
My old man opinion is that if it happens in the first 15 minutes of a movie that’s the plot, not a “twist.”
“It’s a movie about a farm boy on an alien planet but there’s a huge twist when is uncle buys some robots”.
That. Thats how some of you sound.
I know that’s the only thing missing on my resume
Hollywood, Ending is my first novel for adults (and my first novel of any kind in nine years). I am so excited for you to read it. Writing it reminded me that writing can be joyful and help me to visit rooms in my mind I just can't get to any other way. apnews.com/article/john...
This goes double if you’re a pretend film buff who claims to be an expert, and are on a podcast about it.
Several things can be true.
1. Generative AI in movies and writing is bad.
2. Not everything you dislike is AI.
3. Don’t accuse everything you dislike as being AI.
4. Learn the basics of filmmaking so you don’t accuse a director of using technology when he very famously used practical effects.
Somewhere, a little bird landed on Stephen King’s windowsill and told him to start writing.
They Will Kill You was the best possible remake of Die Hard ever. (Complimentary.)
It’s weird because a lot of academics and teachers will talk about how it’s a net negative, but podcasters and YouTubers who’s revenue stream depend on people being able to access their stuff at all times push back on these people who spend all their time with teens and children.
It’s a mystery.
Wake up, babe. A new scene that will be shown during the opening montage of the apocalypse just dropped.
Wait until this writer finds out about a lot of movies about vampires.
It’s the best kind of victory.
I might come around on AI if someone can program it to automatically detect if someone writes the words “plot hole” it automatically holds the post until the writer can successfully define the term.
“I don’t like this” isn’t a plot hole.
Everyone who complained about Ryan Reynolds’s bright green CGI suit seeing a practical non CGI suit.
If I had a nickel for every “Young woman hunted by a secret society” movie coming out in March, I’d have two nickels.
It’s probably not concerning at all that the AV Club gave two extremely negative reviews to two movies - one mediocre, one great - that explicitly state that AI is bad.
Macbeth (1606 dir. William Shakespeare.)
“I…” you say.
The people lean in, excited.
“never liked…”
The people clasp their hands in anticipation.
“that artist, anyway!”
The people erupt in applause. Thousands of that artists former fans come to you to confess their sins.
That. That’s how some of y’all sound.
I saw a review of Mercy that said the movie glorifies the police and AI. The movie does neither of these things. It’s pretty explicit in this fact.
I’m not going to say it’s a grand masterpiece but what are we doing here?
I haven’t seen the Oscar Nominations yet but can you believe that one movie and/or actor got snubbed? And that other actor and/or movie is totally overrated and didn’t deserve it at all.
Does… does that sum up 90% of the analysis?
Film critics: “we need more original movies!”
Film critics when there’s an original movie that isn’t Oscar Quality:
Citation needed.
(I like it I just wanted to make that joke)
Is there anything more annoying in film discourse right now than pretending you’re “better” than everyone else because you hate the right movies?
