Last spring, National Geographic disappeared its own documentary featuring a queer woman ice core scientist. No explanation was given. They have since claimed "something came to light." My colleagues and I very skeptical.
Gratitude to @evaholland.bsky.social and @defector.com for this story.

2024 was the hottest year on record.
2025 will be the dumbest.
Conservationists + Catron County (NM) residents are calling out a plan by the Catron County Board of County Commissioners to declare a “state of emergency” due to wolves in the County. However, there is no incident in recorded history of a Mexican wolf attacking or injuring a human.
It’s official! 🎬 @sundance.org will be moving to Boulder in 2027! Chancellor Schwartz says it best: "Boulder is an incredible place to immerse yourself in the arts, culture, nature and history that make life worth living." Read more → bit.ly/4iZGpMe
Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but this is video of Rumeysa Ozturk's arrest posted by WCVB. It's terrifying.
My second climate article is now out! In this article I look to add context to where the current climate change movement stands in relation to past environmental movements and why advocacy is essential for creating institutional change.
Let me know what you think!

AOC and Bernie in front of the rally crowd in Denver
Zoomed out crowd shot of 34,000 people in downtown Denver with Colorado mountains in the background
Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back.
This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008.
Also bigger than the 2024 DNC.
And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).
Arctic Science Summit Week is happening this week at the University of Colorado Boulder! The conference provides opportunities for coordination, cooperation & collaboration between the scientific organizations involved in Arctic research.

As an early career scientist and PhD student one thing I plan on making a staple in my career is climate communication and education. With the recent attacks on science, now seems as good a time to start. So if you have a few minutes please check out my first post:

5. I find it disgusting, devastating, and disheartening that both veterans and the service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country thought they were doing so to protect the Constitution of the United States and the ideals of freedom and democracy for which it stands.
🧵(11/13)
4(cont.). …and without that benefit I would never have had the opportunity to pursue a career in a field that I truly love.
🧵(10/13)
4. On a more personal note, the VA gives former service members opportunities to pursue careers that they would not otherwise have. The VA offered to pay for my masters degree which allowed me to get accepted into grad school (I was admittedly a super bad candidate for any grad programs), …
🧵(9/13)
3. The VA benefits that soldiers are recruited on are often a major reason individuals volunteer for service. So in this case not only is defunding the VA objectively cruel, it also threatens national security by disincentivizing people to join our all volunteer armed forces.
🧵(8/13)
2. A significant amount of VA Employees are themselves veterans and have chosen a post-military career that allows themselves to give back and help other veterans get on their feet after service. Aka they are genuinely good people, net-positive members of society.
🧵(7/13)
1(cont.). At a minimum, the government that put the physical and mental health of these soldiers in jeopardy for the protection of the rest of its citizens should front the cost for the treatment of these vets for life.
🧵(6/13)
1(cont.). This is apparent at any VA clinic or hospital where the somber mood felt in those waiting rooms echoes what was lost and sacrificed by each service member in there.
🧵(5/13)
1. Healthcare (the healthcare industry in the U.S. is an utter dumpster fire and that needs to be addressed also, but this rant is specifically focused on veteran care). Many veterans like myself have suffered numerous injuries causing varying degrees of permanent disability.
🧵(4/13)
Obviously I am biased, but for those who don’t know much about the VA here are some reasons why I think it is an essential part of government…..
🧵 (3/13)
Here’s the bottom line anyone who supports the down-sizing and defunding of the VA is sending a big fuck you to all the service men and women who have served this country and sworn an oath to protect the constitution and the values (or former values) that this country stands/stood for.

Check out this piece on the Hazard Services Branch at NOAA GSL. I had the pleasure of working with Emily and Taylor (in article) and the rest of the HS crew the last few years. This article is a perfect example explaining how our expert civil servant scientists are literally working to save lives.
As a cadet one of our summer trainings was named in her honor “Task Force Perez” That summer we learned about her exemplary leadership as a cadet and officer. Any attempt to erase her story or impact is a disgrace to values of Duty, Honor, Country for which she made the ultimate sacrifice.
Had the privilege of working with NHC while at NOAA the past few years. These federal workers should be seen as essential assets for the U.S. improving public safety and science communication. This article should come as no surprise to anyone!
Please share this REAL impact! AK colleagues tell me 17 of 20 ppl were terminated from Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center (MGVC) in AK. I’ve worked w/ this professional and wonderful group serving the public & they have a display in their museum about the Juneau Icefield Research Program (JIRP). 🧪
NOAA does a lot more than weather forecasting. Here's the list of line offices. Its value extends to so many different sectors that the public would be shocked to realize the volume of decisions made based on what NOAA provides. This is an agency where the "trickle down" theory legitimately occurs.
