I am being vague because I didn't ask them if I could disclose their identity, but it's about as authoritative a source as can be on this particular topic.

Put another way: if they posted about it publicly, it would certainly be enough to update the Wikipedia entry.

Say NO to mass warrantless surveillance. Reform Section 702 now! Section 702 of the FISA allows intelligence agencies to collect emails, calls, and messages from foreigners abroad, but in practice, it also sweeps in Americans’ communications when they interact…

Congress is set to vote this week on the law @wyden.senate.gov has been warning about, Section 702 of FISA.

Use our action center to tell your lawmaker not to renew Section 702 without major reform to protect Americans' privacy rights: freedom.press/action/refor...

I think this should be handled at the OS level, not by the app. I'm also pretty sure Android can generate this for videos already - not sure about voice memos

I can confirm. My father taught at Smith and his best friend Leonard Baskin taught at Hampshire and Leonards wife Lisa was a part of the divestment movement as was my dad.

However, I was able to confirm from an authoritative source that it was motivated by the student protests against Israel, and while the administration officially denied it publicly, Hampshire did, intentionally, divest from Israel (in the BDS sense).

This is something that I was hesitant to say because there's a lot of (intentional) confusion and misinformation about the divestment and the motivation - even the Wikipedia page says the administration officially denied that it was politically motivated.

Hampshire College was also one of the first (if not the first) to divest from Israel, in 2009, due to Israel's apartheid and violations of human rights.

also lol at the typo, because "Male Love Not Porn" sounds like M/M erotica filmed for bisexual women to watch (complimentary)

When I first saw Male Love Not Porn, I thought it looked fine on face value, but when she made her "blowjobs are bad" comment in 2014 I started getting wary.

And when in 2019/2020 I saw she had never talked about SESTA/FOSTA once, it was clear what her values are.

It's basically respectability politics for puritanical sex-negativity, rebranded as feminism.

Like with a lot of white liberalism, it allows people to avoid challenging anything about their fundamental beliefs or actions, while still avoiding feeling like they're being regressive or "sex-negative", which they have some instinctive feeling is socially bad.

This comment is from 2014! It is not some new stance of hers!

"Pornography is bad because it makes teenagers think oral sex is normal" is both preposterous and an actual thing Cindy Gallop has said.

It is not a position that deserves defending.

pornography has been readily accessible to teenagers for literally generations. The moral panic over this being some uniquely destructive force that is ruining kids is a right-wing talking point pushed by explicitly religious (usually evangelical) groups.

She had run a porn site for something like 10 years and yet (last I checked) has never mentioned the words "SESTA" or "FOSTA" once, which already speaks volumes.

This has unfortunately been her schtick for a while, at least 12 years. She projects a brand of sex positivity, but ultimately uses it to promote a very conservative (and therefore sex-negative) vision for the world.

If you are concerned or high-risk, I would recommend disabling message contents in Signal's own settings (in the app) - that's the foolproof method.

This is just a fallback option ("plan C")

If you live in NY, MA, or any of the other "blue" states with age verification bills on the docket, call your reps and governor and tell them exactly why this is actually going to kill children, not keep them "safe".

Hampshire College was the first college to divest from South Africa during apartheid, all the way back in 1977.
