not even a month and the Orioles have some pretty dramatic ass grand slams already
Basallo is having a night behind that plate for pitchers that are ricocheting everything like it’s ping pong
Jeremiah Jackson has been good ever since he got his first opportunities in Baltimore. In the last week, he’s been sensational.
As the Orioles get healthy, there will be questions about how to use Jackson. But he’s earned a shot to stay in the lineup: www.thebanner.com/sports/oriol...
Update: For the first time all season, Jeremiah Jackson has walked.
First Taylor Ward homer of the season. Mr. Double finally puts one over the wall, and the Orioles need it bad. It's a 5-3 game in CLE as the Orioles trail in the bottom of the 5th.
Going south quick in Cleveland. Juan Brito hits one to the CF wall after Blaze Alexander can't get a great jump on it and has to try to make a play turned around. Guardians out to a 4-0 lead at home on the Os in the series finale.
Trevor Rogers allows his first baserunner of the day with a very odd error. He got Pete Alonso's toss in plenty of time to get Hedges at first ... but he didn't run to the actual bag. When Rogers looked down to touch first, it was a few feet further than he thought.
Orioles lineup for the series finale in CLE:
In the 9th inning when Colton Cowser went up against Cade Smith, he struck out for a fourth time tonight. He is 2 for 19 in the last seven games with 8Ks.
I asked Craig Albernaz that even though Cowser is a lefty who was facing a righty if there was any thought to pinch hit:
Golden Sombrero for Pete Alonso. He seemed in a groove earlier in the week, but today has been looking for hits in all the wrong places.
Gunnar Henderson for 368 feet to right field -- his 7th homer of the year.
Aside from one bad pitch, it's been a pretty clean outing from Dean Kremer. He's struck out six, walked two, allowed two hits. Of his 95 pitches in six innings, he's thrown 58 strikes.
Gavin Williams dealing today for Cleveland, racking up 10 strikeouts.
Somewhat notable: Colton Cowser has three of those, all looking at the final strike.
And Bryan Rocchio breaks it open, knocking a 3-run homer to right field and giving the Guardians a 3-1 lead.
Dean Kremer has allowed his first hit of today’s game in the 5th inning. Guardians on the corners threatening with one out.
Cowser hitting DH today has nothing to do with his right knee collision with the outfield wall yesterday, Craig Albernaz said. It's more about giving Dylan Beavers, who has been under the weather for the last week or so, back in the outfield. His last start in OF was April 10.
Craig Albernaz said he liked Leody Taveras' ABS challenge in the 8th last night, not only because it was correct, but because he used it in a high-leverage spot that changed a K to a walk.
The Os keep discussing "having one in the holster when we get late in the game."
Orioles lineup for Saturday’s game in CLE:
Sorry folks, have to just get this out of the way about the picture below.
JACKSON FIVE 🙏
OK, now that we did that, here's a story about how the Orioles came back down 4-0, and how Jeremiah Jackson's heater continued in Cleveland: www.thebanner.com/sports/oriol...
Five homers in the last seven games for Jeremiah Jackson. Wheeeewwww.
Welcome back to the hot streak, Jeremiah Jackson. He clears the high left feet wall with a 390-foot homer that gives the Orioles a 6-4 lead in the 8th inning.
The Orioles will not be shut out tonight. After Shawn Armstrong loads the bases without getting an out, the Orioles get a sac fly from Jonathan Rodriguez to score their first run of the night, 4-1 game.
Anthony Nunez inherits a tough situation -- bases loaded with one out -- and strikes out Rhys Hoskins. But Daniel Schneemann rocks a grand slam to right center. The dam finally broke.
Hunter Gaddis comes in for the Guardians and immediately strikes out the side in the top of the 7th.
Gunnar Henderson tosses his bat in frustration after getting rung up. It's been that kind of offensive series for the Orioles so far.
Seems nuts that this pitching matchup between Bassitt and Bibee is scoreless after five innings. There has been plenty of traffic: Orioles and Guardians have combined to leave 14 runners on base. CLE had bases loaded in the first.
And Cowser stays in the game.
Colton Cowser ran a country mile to catch a deep fly by the foul line and crashed into the side wall. He immediately started grabbing his right knee after throwing the ball back in. He's being checked out now.
Very fortunate at-bats get Bassitt out clean. A pop to third followed by a grounder to second.
