RFK Jr.’s Lifelong Lapse of Judgment A new book shines light, if any were needed, on the man’s manifest unfitness.

In a new biography, "the portrait of RFK Jr. that emerges...is of a man uniquely bereft of redeeming qualities. Wherever he happens to be, he is out of place. Whatever he does is not enough. His lusts are omnipresent and insatiable."

Political debate in the UK is now dominated by Political rather than Subject Matter Experts and is about who is up or down politically rather than the details of the matter. The Media are largely at fault by invariably fielding uninformed Political correspondents for all issues

It’s amazing how urgent tasks lose their urgency as soon as you sit down at your desk.

They: Hi! Through our unhallowed ransacking of the world's knowledge, your computer can now talk to the dead.

Me: Can it talk to my printer yet?

They: haha no

This is almost exactly what I said would happen on yesterday’s show. The conflicting & contradictory reasons given for the war, coupled with client journalists & pusillanimous politicians on both sides of the Atlantic, will enable him to claim ‘success’ when nothing remotely successful has happened.

1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health

I didn't realize that Iran is supposed to play three World Cup games in the United States this summer even though it is currently under a bombardment ordered by the only holder of the FIFA Peace Prize

This is such a beautiful & important piece. Connects into the most important teaching of the prophets: “It's not a coincidence that their stories and teachings are … populated with stories about … those struggling to get by … widows, people who are sick, and those affected by famine and oppression”

The rise of vice-signalling: how hatred poisoned politics Over the last 10 years, the terms of political debate have changed completely – and week by week they seem to get worse

This by @zoesqwilliams.bsky.social is really worth a read, in spite of the fact that it mentions me in passing. She's convinced me, anyway, that vice-signalling really is a thing - and a phenomenon/technique we need to take very seriously.

'UK has been colonised by immigrants', says INEOS boss and Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe In an interview with Sky News's Ed Conway, Sir Jim says Britain faces profound political, social and economic challenges, among them an unprecedented rise in immigration in recent years.

Jim Ratcliffe is best known as the unpopular Manchester United owner and today he has been in the news for saying that 'the UK has been colonised by immigrants'. We need to understand Ratcliffe's as an energy billionaire who made his power and money by closing workplaces and opposing unions 🧵

One small but notable sign of the rightward shift in UK politics in recent years is the use of “illegal migrants” for asylum seekers who arrive unofficially. It’s a dehumanising term which was popularised by the hard right and is now - as here - used repeatedly in Home Office press releases.

That MAGA Account Might Be a Troll From Pakistan How X blew up its own platform with a new location feature

I wrote about the fake account blowup on X this weekend. A genuine post-truth nightmare and proof that these companies have polluted their platforms so thoroughly and traded reality for profit that they've undermined the very idea of what the internet is supposed to be.

Seeing Grieg's piano concerto mentioned made me yearn to watch THAT sketch again.

The whole thing is 12 minutes and massively benefits from being given room to breathe.

The timing and acting remains equisite. and "Andrew Preview" is SO good at not breaking character.

South’s largest antebellum mansion burned to the ground, igniting debate on social media The mansion in Iberville Parish, La., was built in 1859 and was currently being used as an inn and event venue. Reaction to the loss has been mixed.

Time to read (or reread) Tiana Clark's poem "Soil Horizon" about being asked to take a family portrait at a plantation: poems.com/poem/soil-ho...

If we only frame this as a partisan crisis, we miss the structural threat: a breakdown in how truth is recognised, shared, and defended. That’s the deeper fight.

Guardian image of Nigel Farage being triumphant in Runcorn

I repeat my appeal to any picture editors who don't want to promote Farage: stop using images that project gleeful, gurning isn't-it-all-a-great-laugh energised triumphalism.
