xkcd #1053, calling for shared excitement when someone admits they are learning something for the first time

A crucial difference between conceptualizing faith as certainty versus sitting with uncertainty is this:
Closeness depends on vulnerability, which we can only bear if we are willing to sit with, or endure, uncertainty.
@alanwessman.bsky.social Next time somebody disputes your knowledge of the f-word, you can be prepared!!

God’s heart is with the little ones, not the proud warmongers.
It is with the humble that He builds up His Kingdom of love & peace.
As a professional psychology teacher, I'd be happy to answer this!
Autism is a "spectrum", meaning that different people can show autistic traits by degrees. Sensory issues, spoken language, social comfort, etc.
I can't actually diagnose the OP, but being ultra-literal is a common autistic trait.
If I may risk contradicting the general outrage—
The news here is "Slightly autistic Mormon man learns what sexual violence is, still working on his knowledge of profanity"
Not "Mormon man disapproves of f-bombs"

I guess I'm supposed to hit you with this??? 🗞️
Or you can just read it 📰
I don't know how this works sry 💛
Well the S is silent
Hmm. Dalinar from the #stormlightarchive is both of these things. I guess he really is a #femboy. #cosmere
If fictional characters were conscious, I'm pretty sure they would experience time very differently from us. The time between drawings would pass, in the nethertime between one chapter and the next.
TLDR she's not mad 💛
Err, Count von Count, I mean
Not Dracula lol
Okay but I feel like Elmo would make an excellent Vice President. Count Dracula, of course, can be Secretary of the Treasury
I appreciate the sentiment, but also invoking the 25th Amendment here is kinda ableist.
Cognitive decline does not make a person threaten war crimes. But it could make a war criminal less coherent, less aware of the context of their threats.
It's actually kinda ableist to invoke the 25th Amendment as a means of removing a war criminal from office.
Lack of ability—intellectual or otherwise—does not cause people to threaten war crimes, and Mr. Tr*mp has been expressing a willingness to commit war crimes for over a decade.
2010 me would be scandalized by this existing
2026 me is scandalized by the choice of archetypes
The franchise has always been experimenting with a variety of business models.
"Comparable"?
Sure, the trans death rate because of gender enforcement laws is *less* than a Nazi extermination camp.
But if ~5-10% of trans people are known to die by suicide, and a conservative argues for *stricter* laws against them, can we not infer genocidal intent?
I think confronting a conservative with that fact is a useful test for whether they lean towards moderation or towards polite fascism.
Depending on the person, the issue, and how it's framed, you might see denial, hostility, idle sympathy... or you might find a real ally.
This is the issue that makes trans people most likely to see conservatism and fascism as the same thing.
...because my understanding is that the death rate among detransitioned/rejected/unaffirmed trans people is comparable to the death rate in a concentration camp.
Perhaps because many "conservatives" are in fact moderates, attempting to balance the egalitarian values of liberalism with the social order. They accept hierarchy with limits.
This relates to defining fascism as a programme for the radicalization of conservatives by playing on their fears.
Cherry blossoms in Japan.
Good idea!! I'd say this #ldsconf overall is much safer than most. The focus is on Easter and the core belief in the resurrection of Jesus.
Elder Renfrow's Sunday AM words were aimed at healing the spiritual trauma of being overwhelmed, reiterating many of the Church's most compassionate doctrines.
Fragile self-esteem is a plague 💔
Thanks!! 🌠 I don't have this uma girl yet tho
Where'd you find this quiz?
I think one of the few people who would agree with this statement—holding Joseph Smith Jr. responsible in some degree for all the branches of Mormonism that resulted from him, for good or for ill—would be Joseph himself
Well, if you're curious
All the principles taught in the LDS temples are also taught outside the temples. What we're not allowed to talk about are certain symbols and ritual wordings that the temple ceremonies use.
It's more about making the temple ceremony feel special than hiding any doctrines.
The ironic part of this comment is that I think the Harry Potter series is a big part of what taught a generation that bigoted = evil. The defining philosophy of the Death Eaters was bigotry.
So of course JKR's fans feel betrayed when she can't let go of her own prejudices.
