"Body Hair Blues by Tess Thompson, published July 28, 2020 on ohjoysextoy.com/body-hair-blues-tess-thompson Tess Thompson's art looks like it's painted with thick, bright acrylic paint. Her art is cartoony, somewhat angular, and always energetic. Tess speaks in a teal-colored word balloon, while others have their own colors. "Ever since I was a kid, I've always had so much hair." Tess stands in front of a mirror wearing only her underwear and holding a razor. She has light-orange skin with an assortment of tattoos across her body. Her dark hair is just short of shoulder-length, and it turns into a bright teal color about half-way down. She has extra tufts of short, black hair on her arms and legs, with individual hair sprouting up on her face, and her eyebrows connect in the middle to form a majestic unibrow. "Being mixed Latina and with polycystic ovarian syndrome made me, like... A one woman wig factory! This includes:" An illustration depicts each item on her list. "Toes, feet, knuckles, nipples, AND excessive pubic hair." Brandishing her razor plugged full of thick hair, she continues, "Eventually I got so SICK of shaving all of that! It was WAY too much." "So one day, I decided to stop bothering with it entirely..." She says, throwing the razor into the trash with a THWACK! "I wanted to force myself to accept my body hair."

Now sporting a tank top, she holds her arms wide, exclaiming, "AND BOY DID PEOPLE NOT LIKE THAT!" In a green panel: "It's your body, and you can do whatever you want, but it's not beautiful." Tess's ex-girlfriend confides in her. Tess furrows her brow, replying "..." In a gray-maroon panel: "You're so beautiful, Tess!" Tess's mom marvels at her. "Awww." Smiles, Tess. "If only you didn't have a unibrow!" Her mother quickly follows up. "MOM!" Tess exclaims in exasperation. In a tan panel: "You can shape my brows, but I really don't want my unibrow touched, please." Tess explains to a person holding scissors while she sits in a chair. "Well... okay." the standing woman replies. "As long as I don't have to wear that thing! Haha." In a black panel Tess looks not quite at the audience with her eyes round in disbelief as she thinks to herself, "Did God give you that mouth?"

Narration: It gets really bad sometimes... Tess stands on the sidewalk, typing away on her phone while a stranger walks back, looking over their shoulder at her. Narration: It sucks when strangers sneer and double-take. The stranger cartoonishly distorts so their neck extends long enough to loop back over their shoulder to stare, bug-eyed, at Tess's hairy legs. Addressing the audience, Tess declares, "Even when I was a kid! I just wanted people to-" A flashback takes us to a younger Tess sitting in a hallway with a row of other young people who are all staring at her legs. She throws her arms in the air and kicks one leg up dramatically, shouting, "STOP STARING!" Present-day Tess stands, facing the reader. She closes her eyes and presses the palms of her hands together, attempting to remain calm as she says, "It can be really alienating and frustrating. But you know what? It's worth it." Looking mischievous, she leans in more closely to the reader to say, "Because the unity that body hair brings... Is far more valuable to me!"

"Your unibrow is cuuuuute." Tess's current girlfriend coos, teasingly squishing herself against Tess from behind. Her girlfriend has short dark green hair, a black t-shirt, and an earring of a silver cross. Her skin is a lighter peach color from Tess's. "Aww!" Tess teases flirtily back. Later on in a store at the checkout, the person working the register throws their arms in the air exclaiming, "HEY! You're like me! You're a furry girl!" "Whw-hw?" Gulps Tess, startled. "Your arm hair?" The cashier asks, holding her own hairy forearm up. "We're furry!" Tess looks at her own hairy forearm in surprise and then with happy conviction she exclaims back, "We're furry!!" Outside a couple from the other side of the street stop so one person can shout out, "HEY! Are you mixed Puerto Rican?" From Tess's side of the street, she startles, asking, "LITERALLY how did you...?" "We are too!" The stranger calls. "It's the arm hair!" "Huh!" Tess marvels, looking at her forearm. "Weird!!" Narration: Sometimes... Tess continues walking confidently, admiring her hairy arms and legs. Narration: That kind of weird and unexpected connection is just what I need.
