More coverage of the lawsuit we filed against DOJ yesterday re: its efforts to obtain state voter data for purposes of interfering in upcoming elections. The emails and other docs our partners at @citizensforethics.org got in their FOIA litigation are quite enlightening!

ICYMI, yesterday @protectdemocracy.org and our partners at @aclu.org, @citizensforethics.org, and @commoncause.org filed a case against DOJ to fight its attempts to create an illegal nationwide database for purposes of kicking voters off the rolls and interfering with upcoming elections.
The indictment of veteran civil rights organization @splcenter.org is the Trump admin’s latest attempt to silence critics, perceived opponents, and those who continue to pursue justice, equality, and the rule of law. SPLC has made clear it won’t be silenced. The rest of us should do the same.
It’s “1984” levels of incoherence and propaganda:
War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.
SPLC is actually *supporting* hate groups, not trying to get rid of them.
It’s all utter bullshit.
This indictment is authoritarian dogshit. It’s transparent propaganda attempting to distract from the administration’s massive illegal and immoral actions over the past 14 months.
This is part of the Administration's plan to DECEIVE voters about the trustworthiness of election systems, DISRUPT the smooth operation of those systems, and use the ensuing chaos to DENY election outcomes that they don’t like. Read more here:

Incredibly proud to be working on this case; equally proud that @protectdemocracy.org is leading the fight against DOJ's illegal access to sensitive and private voter information. This is part of the plan to disrupt the upcoming election, and it's critical that we fight back.
Absolutely fantastic and just the best bonus ever that @timheidecker.bsky.social is involved 🤣🤣🤣
This is about to be VERY unhinged
Shak Mohammed. First goal in Nashville. First goal in MLS. Assisted by Hany Mukhtar, who has taken him under his wing this season.
"Ever since I stepped foot in Nashville, he's been a brother figure for me."
"Anyway. I’m not endorsing what the Dread Lord uttered in a series of cacophonous, guttural snarls and clicking noises at the press pool yesterday."
🤣🤣🤣
Nashville SC are the first MLS club to ever win a match in Mexico City's Azteca Stadium. They're just the 14th MLS club to make it to the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals, and they're looking to become the second to ever win the tournament.
Watching this in real-time, I think I probably woke up my neighbors with the noise I made. Nájar is just insanely good. My days.
Absolute SCENES as Nashville SC defeat Club América in Mexico. Making HISTORY!! #COYBIG #EveryOneN
We won’t know until final vote tallies, but it’s likely that Orbán‘s emulation of the US electoral system — making elections much more winner-take-all and gerrymandered — has blown up in his face.
Should be a warning to the GOP: if you lose badly enough, any gerrymander can become a dummymander
Ol' Jefferson Davis Vance just doesn't have the touch he..... never had in the first place. Just like his boss! What swing-state races can he bring an endorsement to in the coming months?

The mocking Spongebob meme, with Spongebob saying, "What was that, JD? followed by a quote from the linked New York Times story, "Viktor Orban is, of course, going to win."

even the most tenacious autocrats have a difficult time denying a landslide result against them
Authoritarianism is brittle. Autocrats want you to believe they are all-powerful and unstoppable, but it‘s just a confidence game. A self-perpetuating bluff. Today the Hungarians showed just how weak and empty Orbánism always was.
Trumpism is next.
This is a really critical point. A defeat to authoritarianism anywhere is a victory for democracy everywhere, particularly in this case.
Orban't
we’re not going to defeat global authoritarianism by putting JD Vance on a stage and letting him talk. but maybe it isn’t going to *hurt* either lol
more seriously congrats to the hungarian people for kicking that asshole out
Incredible news in the fight against #authoritarianism as Viktor Orbán concedes. Great things can happen with sustained mass mobilization. The pro #democracy coalition in the United States should take heart.
Orbán turns out to be more of a democrat than the U.S. president and a nontrivial number of GOP candidates.
YUPPPP
Precisely the same (100% wrong) argument they made in our case. Just an utter waste of time.
P.P.S. As @danielahorwitz.bsky.social correctly points out, it's NOT that no one will be able to bring any constitutional challenges anymore. The TN Declaratory Judgments Act is still available and operative. It's more that the AG is trying to make things as difficult as possible.
Yep, phrasing wasn't great there -- I don't mean to say that it *will* be impossible to bring challenges, more that the AG's office is trying to make it as hard as possible. We litigated the sovereign immunity issue and they were big mad about losing on that one.
