"The rise of extreme wealth is one of the clearest signs of this imbalance. In 1987, billionaires held wealth equal to 3% of global GDP. Today this tiny elite, just 0.0001% of the world population, owns the equivalent of *16%* of world GDP in wealth."

A staggering new finding from Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies: since 2001, the money left over each month for lower-income renters—after paying rent and utilities—has fallen 60 percent to a record low of $210.

$210 left over for food, healthcare, childcare, and everything else.

Third spaces - Mostly gone
Finding work - fucking impossible for tons of industries
Hobbies - Well look at these prices

Society is slowly making it impossible for people to exist on it, no joy, not progress, just the suicidal march of a system led by apocalyptic evil men and cowards.

I know that I sound like a broken record but I think once this society was ok with accepting mass covid deaths just to be able to eat at Applebees then all bets were off.

I lost my cat today. He was my first cat - I had him for 11 years, & I loved him SO much. I'm absolutely ruined; he's always been with me. I haven't really been an adult without him.

If anyone has any advice beyond the traditional "give it time", I'd deeply appreciate it.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Good morning! AI is being force-fed to you by a handful of billionaires who will lose a bunch of money if they fail to convince you that you need it. You do not need it 🫶

Beshear: Let me be clear. The president has both the funding and the authority to fund snap during a shutdown. In fact, every other president in every other shutdown has done so. People going hungry in this instance is a choice that this president has made.

Reposting because, and I say this with love, some of you are going to see this and go “oh shit, I need to check my bottle” and then immediately forget about it so if this could affect you, go check right now before you even scroll to the next post, I mean it.

i've been sick like 2x in the past 5 years (as far as tests could tell, neither time was COVID). i'm probably never gonna stop carrying masks and wearing them when i'm around others or indoors

(but i would really like if public indoor venues took air filtration and other remediation more seriously)

thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

can’t tell if my antidepressants aren’t working or if they just weren’t built for this. like, zoloft was introduced in the 90s it barely needed to work then. if you got sad you could just buy a house.

Super critical. Also an important time to remind people that primary care docs and other community health workers in many states can provide utility shutoff protection letters if you have a qualifying medical condition, an infant <12 months old, or are 65+

I work with some progressive advocacy groups and the way some of these people absolutely refuse to use anything other than the strictest, most factual language makes me want to pull my hair out.

Your opponents are literally lying 24/7, y'all can't use a little hyperbole to help yourselves?!

One of the reasons I think “defund the police” is a great slogan is that you get to repeatedly tell people that studies show that police don’t actually solve murders, and in fact one-third of stranger-murders are committed by police.

I have some beautiful one on one connections - but as soon as any kind of group situation occurs, I immediately start feeling out of place

and I'm just tired and sad about it

going to be a little self pitying for a minute - I'm just so truly, deeply tired of feeling like there's nowhere and no group of people I actually fit in with

An adorable male downy woodpecker sitting on a blue perch at a bird feeder. It is a small black and white patterned bird with a white belly and a red dot on the back of its head. It is in profile but turned a little more towards the camera.

A bright red male cardinal sitting on a blue bird feeder perch. It looks like he is examining the camera in profile - his head is closer to the camera than his body.

The HHS rule banning trans care from many ACA plans is open for public comment now. Only 3 comments so far.

Embarrassing how the media is completely ignoring this. There's likely over 200,000 trans people on ACA plans (1% of 24 million)
