Religion provides some people with an identity based entirely off of external rules. This allows people to avoid truly learning or empathizing because they lack the personal depth to do so, simply blaming everything on “the rules.”

Instead of saying I don’t like something like a normal person, I have found that “that’s not my preferred form of sustenance” is much better at relaying how absolutely insufferable I am
