Lots going on but don’t lose track of the Trump attacks on biomedical research and cancer cures.

@jeremymberg.bsky.social posted a leaked #NIH memo today. I want to highlight a few scary parts.

They’re about taking power from scientists and experts and giving it to the president’s hacks. 1/ 🧪

How do we make sense of scientific literature that is growing explosively to the point where no-one could read all the relevant papers, and is contaminated with fraudulent and LLM-generated papers? I think that science isn't currently equipped to deal with this, and we need to. #science #metascience

This would not be possible without financial support of government, institutional and philanthropic organizations. We are so thankful to NIH, @danafoundation.bsky.social, Whitehall, @parkinsondotorg.bsky.social and the Canada First Research Excellence Fund for believing in and supporting us.

yes... sadly... that's a record for me. i am not proud of it, but my lab's move played a big role in this. As someone famous once said: life's like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're gonna get :-)

indeed... although we did go through several rounds of review, most of the delays stemmed from life's circumstances, including an international move for my lab... but yes, it is mind boggling to think how things take...

Subsecond dopamine fluctuations do not specify the vigor of ongoing actions Nature Neuroscience - Liu and colleagues show that the vigor (that is, speed and amplitude) of dexterous movements is not controlled by ongoing fluctuations in extracellular dopamine within the...

Delighted to see this finally out: rdcu.be/eO9oW
We tested whether brief striatal dopamine release events influence the vigor of skilled movements. Despite popular belief, we did not find any evidence linking rapid dopamine dynamics to motor vigor on a moment-by-moment basis.

The team at @unbreaking.org have been doing tremendous work distilling news + context into briefs about the harms of the administration and movements countering them. I'm deep into some topics and found it so helpful to catch up on others, like transgender healthcare: unbreaking.org/issues/trans...

Our colleagues at NIH disagree with you Elon Musk. Their jobs are being cut, illegally, and those who stay are too afraid to speak out. But you ARE killing US research, whether you realize it or not

I can’t take any credit. I didn’t see this storm coming, or at least i I
Underestimated its speed, destructive power and viciousness.

How to communicate the value of curiosity-driven research The burden of proof is on us, as researchers, to explain why what we do is valuable to society.

We must learn to showcase the practical significance of basic research, demonstrating how seemingly arcane investigations yield transformative applications, writes @tonyzador.bsky.social www.thetransmitter.org/outreach/how...

I sure wish that, at a time when the country to the south is shredding its higher education system, we in Quebec were taking advantage of the possible flight of talent. Instead we're doing the reverse.
